Monday- Friday 8:15 am-3:15 pm, 12 months with paid recess
Salary: $18.50Hourly

Founded in 1953 to meet the needs of children with cerebral palsy and their families, Pillar Care has steadily grown and now delivers life-affirming services to infants, children, adults and their families throughout northern New Jersey through 27 program locations. Pillar Care provides specialized programs to meet a wide range of educational, therapeutic, and social needs of people with various disabilities. The agency serves over 1,650 families each year and employs 700 full- and part-time employees.
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:
We are seeking dedicated and passionate individuals to fill our Paraprofessional positions in our Pillar Elementary School. As a 1 to 1 AIDE, you will be assisting Teachers of the Handicapped in planning and executing educational programs for assigned classes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Assists in all areas of instruction including daily routines, academics, specials, assemblies, daily living skills, therapy groups, including aquatic and hippo therapy, and any other appropriate classroom and school activity.
+ Assists students with daily living skills, feeding/eating, toileting, and special classes. Fosters student independence, socialization, and self-esteem.
+ Assists in adapting instructional activities and materials according to learner needs and individualized programs. Assists teachers in preparation of art displays, instructional materials, bulletin boards, etc.
+ Follows through on directions and student program requirements; able to work independently and with minimal direction for daily routines and lessons/activities.
+ Responds appropriately to input and direction from teachers and other team members, while also demonstrating initiative.
+ Demonstrates effective strategies, as per school guidelines, for the management of student behavior.
+ Assists students arriving and departing from buses. Supervise students according to bus duty schedule.
+ Supports and carries out within the classroom recommendations from therapists including sensory diets, feeding plans, AAC communication strategies, and meeting therapeutic IEP goals. Follows safety procedures and guidelines with adaptive equipment, wheelchairs, special standers, walkers, strollers, and other pieces of equipment, seeking guidance when needed.
+ Acts as a good role model by always maintaining appropriate classroom behavior and conversation in front of students and visitors.
+ Always maintains a positive and cooperative attitude.
+ Is prepared and punctual for meetings, conferences, and trainings.
Qualifications & Requirements:
+ High School graduate, college coursework, Substitute Certificate (or eligible) or experience in a similar position/school, previous experience with children with special abilities preferred
+ In addition, basic ASL (American Sign Language) is a highly preferred skill for this position (Not Required).

+ Must successfully complete a criminal background check and receive clearance from the Department of Human Services, confirming they are not disqualified, before beginning work with individuals served by the organization.

+ Must submit to drug testing prior to their start date.
+ Required to complete an application for a name check against the Child Abuse Registry Information (CARI).
