* Remote or Onsite? Candidates must be CURRENT WI residents. No relocation is allowed. 100% remote in the State of Wisconsin. This role is mostly remote (within the state of WI). However, the selected hires will need to be available to come onsite as needed, at their own expense.

* DOT is planning recurring in-office collaborative sessions for team members to be in the office working directly together so the ability to come into the office is necessary.

Description :

The selected candidate will play a hands-onsenior technologist/lead role inthe analysis, technical design, development, modernization, and support of State of Wisconsin, Department of Transportation applications.

The candidate will provide technical leadership and expertise in modernization efforts, such as upgrading legacy applications to modern frameworks, remediating Java versions,updating application architecture, integrating test automation (unit & regression), and providing guidance in the development/maintenanceof a CI/CD development pipeline following industry best practices.

We are seeking a highly experienced senior developer with strong experience in Java, MVC pattern implementation (Struts, Spring),migrating legacy applications to modern frameworks, test automation, microservice architecture patterns, and troubleshooting and resolving complextechnical issues related to upgrades and/or modernization efforts.

Responsibilities:

- Provide technical leadership for modernizing existing Java-basedweb applications following industry best practices

- Solve complex technical problems

- Develop testing methodology and criteria and implement them on automated build processes.

- Develop application presentation layers using modern JavaScript/TypeScript technologies such as Angular.

- Provide technical leadership to moving applications toward a microservices andmodern looking architecture.

- Java/J2EE (10+ years)

- Struts Framework (5+ years)

- Spring Framework (5+ years)

- Spring Boot (5+ years)

- Angular (5+ years)

- SQL experience (5+ years)

- Oracle and PL/SQL stored procedure experience (4+ years)

- Micro services (4+ years)

- API development (4+ years)

- Hands on Architecture/Design experience (4+ years)

- Experience working with Maven, IntelliJ, and Java 21

- Experience working with industry standard patterns for modernization (i.e. lift and shift, strangler, etc.)

- Experience working in Hybrid and Agile Methodologies (5+ years)

Nice to Have Experience:

- Java Batch experience (4+ years)

- Automated Testing Best Practices (4+ years)

- DevSecOps Best Practices (3+ years) including leveraging SonarQube

- Setting up/maintaining MQ queues and application integration(4+ years)

- Java Messaging Serviceexperience

- Working with WebSphereLiberty

- Leveraging GitHub Copilot or similar GenAI based IDE tools to accelerate software development and testing practices

- Working with Government agencies
