Job Summary

The College of Education, Health, and Human Services (CEHHS) is seeking applications for a Lecturer I position in the Department of Health and Human Services for the Winter 2026 semester. The selected candidate will be responsible for teaching the class, HHS 250-002, Introduction to Environmental Health (section 2).

HHS 250-002 is a hybrid course which combines both in-person and online instruction. In-person/face-to-face class time is scheduled for Wednesdays from 2 pm-3:45 pm, the remaining instruction will be provided online-asynchronous.

The Winter 2026 schedule runs from Friday, January 2 to April 30, 2026.

This course introduces students to environmental health as a core discipline within the field of public health. It is for any student interested in how the environments where we live, work, and play may affect our health, and it is particularly applicable for those pursuing careers in public health, clinical health, or allied fields. Specifically, the course provides students with an introduction to environmental health science, communication, and policy. Students will examine many case studies to understand the patterning and implications of environmental risks and protective factors in communities through Metro Detroit and the U.S. related to several key pathways (e.g., air, water, climate, built environment). Throughout the semester, considerable attention will be given to causes and consequences of local and national environmental justice issues. Students will gain exposure to methods and resources they may use to assess and address environmental health concerns as scholars, activists, or practitioners.

The selected candidate MUST meet the above posted schedule and will be responsible for conducting all instructional duties of this course including teaching, development of assignments, grading, holding virtual office hours for student support, and maintaining a course page through the Canvas Learning Management System.

Because the Winter 2026 schedule is published and students have already registered, the selected candidate's availability must align with the existing class schedule.

This course is scheduled as Hybrid (a combination of in-person/face-to-face class time and online instruction) with I **n-person/face-to-face class time meeting on** **Wednesdays from 2 pm - 3:45 pm.**

Required Qualifications*

The position requires that the candidate have a Master's degree in Environmental Health, Environmental Science, Public Health, or a closely related natural science field (e.g., biology, chemistry, geology, engineering). Previous experience with a minimum of 2 years teaching experience at the undergraduate level required (serving as a graduate teaching assistant is acceptable) and previous teaching experience online or hybrid preferred.
