    Position Overview

    The Enterprise Data, Analytics & AI organization at Marriott is pioneering the future of hospitality, serving as Marriott’s AI-driven nerve center, where data and analytics converge to guide decisions - —delivering end-to-end insights across every journey and unlocking transformative business value through advanced analytics and AI-powered solutions. The organization is seeking a Vice President, Data & AI Governance and Privacy. This executive is responsible for executing the enterprise-wide strategy for data governance, privacy operations, and responsible AI. This role ensures that data and AI are accurate, well-managed, and used ethically and compliantly across the organization, enabling innovation while protecting stakeholder trust and regulatory alignment.

     

    As a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders, this leader brings deep expertise in data governance, privacy operations, and AI risk management, working with the Law Department and the Global Privacy Office to translate complex regulatory and technical requirements into clear, actionable processes. They champion enterprise-wide adoption of data and AI policies, standards, and stewardship models that promote data and AI quality, transparency, and accountability.

     

    This role is responsible for developing the strategy and operationalizing governance structures that span data classification, metadata management, data quality, and data management in general, as well as AI modeling best practices, AI governance, with responsible and lifecycle stewardship across all areas. The leader also sponsors the implementation of governance and privacy-enhancing technologies, supports regulatory readiness, and partners closely with the Global Privacy Office, Law Department, Risk Management, and Global Information Security teams to mitigate data and AI-related risks. The leader also works closely with Product and Operational teams across Data, Analytics and AI to ensure the development, deployment, and operation of enabling processes and capabilities. Through cross-functional collaboration and strategic influence, this leader fosters a culture of responsible data and AI use across all business domains.

     

    This individual serves as a key leader for Marriott’s enterprise-wide Data Governance, Data Privacy, and AI Governance functions, in partnership with the Law Department and the Global Privacy Office. They facilitate the company’s data governance committee, ensuring the implementation of privacy-related initiatives that balance regulatory risk with business performance. The role reports to the SVP, Data, Analytics and AI with a dotted line reporting relationship to the SVP, Global Privacy/Compliance Officer.

    Qualifications

    + Minimum of 12 years of experience in data and AI governance, privacy, compliance, or related fields, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.

    + Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Information Systems, Data Science, Law) required; advanced degree (e.g., Master’s in Data Management, Computer Science, or Law) strongly preferred.

    + Proven track record in defining and executing enterprise data strategy and AI governance programs within complex, matrixed organizations.

    + Deep expertise in operationalizing global data and AI privacy laws and regulatory frameworks (e.g., GDPR, CCPA), with strong risk management capabilities.

    + Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with Legal, Risk, Security, and Compliance teams.

    + Strong understanding of data management best practices, including metadata management, data quality, and stewardship.

    + Strong understanding of AI best practices, including modeling best practices, model risk management, red/blue teaming and stewardship.

    + Experience with governance and privacy tools (e.g., Atlan, Big Eye, OneTrust, BigID, )

    + Exceptional communication and influencing skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders.

    + Experience in regulated industries (e.g., hospitality, healthcare, financial services) is preferred.

    + Professional certifications such as CIPP, CIPM, or equivalent are preferred.

    Key Responsibilities

    + Define and execute the enterprise strategy for data and AI governance

    + Execute the enterprise strategy for Privacy, in partnership with Legal/Global Privacy.

    + Facilitate the Company’s data governance committee, outlining the global data governance agenda in partnership with the Law Department, Global Privacy Office and other disciplines.

    + With the Law Department and the Global Privacy Office, oversee the development and enforcement of enterprise data and AI policies, standards, and stewardship frameworks.

    + Drive adoption of controlled vocabularies, taxonomies, and metadata standards across domains.

    + Define and operationalize data and AI quality strategies aligned with business priorities.

    + Ensure compliance with global privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).

    + Partner with the Law Department, Risk Management and Global Information Security to mitigate data-related risks.

    + Support regulatory strategy and exam coordination, including internal audit and compliance responses.

    + Sponsor governance tooling and automation programs.

    + Establish ownership, stewardship, and lifecycle guardrails for scientific and operational data and AI.

    + Serve as a data/AI-driven change agent, influencing adoption of governance practices.

    + Monitor KPIs and drive continuous improvement across governance programs.

    + Ensure data governance, quality, and ethical use of AI across all domains.

    + Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in analytics and data science.

    + Oversee team structure, resource allocation, and portfolio prioritization to ensure high-impact analytics initiatives are delivered efficiently and effectively.

     

    Build and mentor a high-performing analytics team with capabilities that promote data and AI privacy and governance.
