    Description

The Department of Biochemistry, a basic science department of the Emory University School of Medicine, is seeking to hire a tenured or tenure track faculty member with expertise in biochemical, biophysical, structural, or related approaches. Outstanding candidates will be considered at the ranks of Assistant, Associate and Full Professor. Research in the department encompasses a wide array of mechanistic studies aimed at better understanding diverse, fundamental biological processes with potential or established links to human health and disease. These include but are not limited to the study of infectious diseases, transcription and translation, cancer and neurodegenerative diseases (for further details see: http://www.biochem.emory.edu/). Current departmental faculty also bridge the School of Medicine’s research mission through participation in broader initiatives such as the Winship Cancer Institute (an NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center), the Emory Vaccine Center, the Biological Discovery through Chemical Innovation (BDCI) initiative, and the Goizueta Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center.

Opportunities abound for synergy throughout the School of Medicine and the Emory College of Arts & Sciences, as well as with nearby

access to state-of-the-art instruments for the broad sweep of biomedical research, including those for X-ray crystallography, cryo-EM, NMR, and

mass spectrometry, operated within the department and through the many Emory Integrated Core Facilities

Candidates must have a Ph.D. (or equivalent) and postdoctoral experience in biochemistry or a closely related discipline. Selection criteria for these positions include a track record of scientific productivity, appropriate to current rank/position, as evidenced by primary research

publications, current and proposed future extramural funding, synergy with current research in the department and throughout the university,

as well as the candidates’ future research vision and potential to contribute to graduate and medical student teaching. Successful candidates will be expected to build a dynamic, independent research program designed to impact our fundamental understanding of the molecular basis of human health and disease. Candidates with research interests aligned with Emory University’s new AI Initiative

(https://aihumanity.emory.edu/) are encouraged to describe how their research program will synergize with this initiative.
