    JOB SUMMARY

    The Stewardship Technician will provide support to the CT National Estuarine Research Reserve (CTNERR) Stewardship Sector (e.g., Stewardship Coordinator and other CTNERR staff) by assisting with and taking on tasks and duties related to advancing habitat restoration/land conservation projects and research.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    + Conducting field data monitoring/collection in support of projects and project planning.

    + Researching, compiling, and analyzing environmental data.

    + Providing project management support to restoration/conservation project planning, execution, and tracking tasks.

    + Collaborating with various stakeholders (e.g., state/federal agencies, municipalities, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), tribes, civic groups, etc.) on advancing habitat restoration or land conservation efforts.

    + Working with other reserve staff to plan, execute, and support special events (stewardship days, cleanups, workshops, outreach activities).

    + Helping develop habitat restoration or land conservation themed grant proposals and reports.

    + Generating Geographic Information System (GIS) maps/StoryMaps, reports/summaries, and other documentation.

    + Attending and leading meetings, workgroups, or other collaborative activities.

    + Performs other CTNERR duties as required.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    + A Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of experience in a field relating to or directly involved with habitat restoration and/or land conservation by the time of hire; OR a Master’s degree and 1 year of experience in a field relating to or directly involved with habitat restoration and/or land conservation by the time of hire.

    + Experience in managing or helping to manage a post-degree project (e.g., not related to class or coursework) where work involved planning/design, execution, and tracking progress/metrics.

    + Experience working in a coastal or estuarine environment collecting or analyzing data.

    + Experience using GIS software to manipulate data and generate spatial data products (e.g., maps, web/story maps, etc.).

    + Experience working with groups of stakeholders from assorted backgrounds including but not limited to municipal, state, and federal agencies, academic organizations, NGOs, tribes, civic groups, etc.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    + 3 years of post-degree experience in a field relating to or directly involved with habitat restoration and/or land conservation.

    + Familiarity with the CTNERR or the National Estuarine Research Reserve System.

    + Experience writing grant proposals or managing awarded grants.

    + Experience with using advanced statistical techniques and software (including but not limited to R, Matlab, Primer, etc.) for data analysis.

    + Experience in web development, website creation and content management.

    + Experience managing teams of volunteers/interns/students in the field.

    APPOINTMENT TERMS

    This is a full-time, grant-funded, 12-month position with an expected salary range of $55,000 to $59,000. This position is subject to annual renewal, contingent on satisfactory performance and budget funding. Other rights, terms, and conditions of employment are contained in the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Connecticut and the American Association of University Professors UConn Chapter (AAUP).
