Data Center Technician – Technical IT 2
**Location:** Santa Clara, CA 95051
**Schedule:** Regular Business Hours (Monday–Friday, Onsite)
**Pay Range:** $25/hr. – $30/hr.
Summary:
Our client, a leader in data center operations and technology infrastructure, is seeking a **Data Center Technician – Technical IT 2** to join their onsite team in Santa Clara, CA. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing, staging, setting up, and performing hardware startups and shutdowns following detailed instructions, standard operating procedures, and network deployment standards. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, technical aptitude in IT hardware, and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues efficiently within a data center environment.
Top 3 Must-Have Skills
• **Hands-on Hardware Support & Troubleshooting** – Experience installing, decommissioning, and replacing IT hardware components (servers, racks, drives, switches).
• **Data Center Operations Knowledge** – Familiarity with cabling, labeling, grounding, and adherence to standard operating procedures (MOPs/SOPs).
• **IT Systems Monitoring & Diagnostics** – Ability to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware or performance issues using monitoring tools and documented procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Prepare, stage, and set up data center hardware such as racks, hard drives, and switches according to checklists and standard protocols.
+ Perform equipment startups and shutdowns while adhering to safety protocols and deployment standards.
+ Conduct post-execution quality checks to verify proper grounding, labeling, and cabling.
+ Perform diagnostics and troubleshooting using established procedures to identify and replace faulty components.
+ Decommission and refresh hardware (e.g., memory upgrades, OS rebuilds) with minimal supervision.
+ Communicate and escalate incidents or issues to the appropriate Data Center Technician Leads.
+ Monitor systems for equipment failures or performance errors, and respond promptly to alerts or program error messages.
+ Collaborate with programmers and systems analysts to test, debug, and verify new programs or configurations.
+ Utilize spreadsheet and reporting tools to manipulate data, log activities, and generate status updates.
Required Qualifications:
+ High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required; Associate’s degree in Computer Programming or equivalent training preferred.
+ 1–4 years of experience supporting IT equipment, servers, or related technology.
+ Basic knowledge of computer hardware, components, and server operations.
+ Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word).
+ Strong verbal and written communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
+ Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
+ Flexibility to work non-standard business hours, including weekends or holidays if required.
+ Previous data center experience is a plus.
