Job Title: Environmental Engineer Associate
Job Description
As an Environmental Engineer, you will develop and manage refrigerant compliance plans for various facilities, including commercial, residential, and industrial. You will perform technical calculations related to HVAC systems, prepare and submit air permit applications, and conduct field inspections and environmental audits.
Responsibilities
+ Develop and manage refrigerant compliance plans for commercial, residential, and industrial facilities.
+ Perform technical calculations related to HVAC systems, including greenhouse gas emissions, heat and cooling loads, and ventilation requirements.
+ Prepare and submit air permit applications and compliance reports, including using EPA’s e-GGRT platform for greenhouse gas reporting.
+ Prepare comprehensive technical reports and regulatory compliance documentation for federal, state, and local environmental agencies.
+ Design and prepare engineered drawings and plan sets using AutoCAD, supporting applications, technical reports, and regulatory filings.
+ Conduct a wide range of field inspections and environmental audits, including boiler and chiller inspections, cooling tower compliance, stack testing, EPA Method 9 evaluations, and stormwater discharge monitoring.
+ Track, monitor, and respond to DOB filings and approvals, including submission of forms such as TR1, TR8, TP, ST, and ZD1 via DOB NOW and eFiling.
+ Respond to plan examiner objections and coordinate resubmittals, corrections, or follow-up filings.
+ Prepare and manage regulatory filings and permits with the NYC Department of Buildings, Department of Environmental Protection, and Fire Department, including applications for boilers, chillers, generators, and related systems.
+ Evaluate client facilities for compliance with environmental, mechanical, and building code regulations, providing written evaluations and actionable recommendations.
+ Coordinate with architects, engineers, subcontractors, and project managers to gather required documentation, communicate regulatory requirements, and assure timely project completion.
+ Manage stormwater pollution prevention plans and related discharge monitoring requirements.
+ Conduct research, draft responses, and support proposal development for RFQs and RFPs.
+ Stay current with changes in DOB, DEP, and EPA regulatory frameworks, codes, and filing systems.
Essential Skills
+ 0-3 years of experience in HVAC design, building systems inspections, or regulatory compliance.
+ Experience with refrigerants.
+ Bachelor's degree in Environmental, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering.
+ Hands-on knowledge of mechanical systems, including HVAC and commissioning practices.
+ Experience preparing and submitting filings with the NYC Department of Buildings.
+ Proficiency in AutoCAD.
+ Valid US driver's license, car, and willingness to travel.
+ Professional Engineer or EIT certification.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Familiarity with NYC DOB systems such as DOB NOW, BIS, and eFiling is a plus.
+ Knowledge of NYC Local Laws 84, 87, and/or 97 is a strong plus.
+ Experience performing field inspections is a plus, including ASME boiler tests, EPA Method 9 evaluations, chiller and cooling tower inspections, and stormwater discharge inspections.
Work Environment
Work hours are from 8 AM to 5 PM with an hour for lunch. The position is based in an office in White Plains or at job site locations. There is a 10% profit share of salary and minimal overtime work.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of White Plains, NY.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $31.25 - $36.06/hr.
