Posting Summary
Provide specialized technical assistance to include the development, design and implementation of extension, teaching, and research projects and activities in support of tree fruit, viticulture horticulture and pest management program. Activities include: assist with Extension programming including maintenance of statewide weather network, grower support with pest monitoring, and collection and reporting of industry production data; maintenance of research and demonstration orchards including planting, pruning, pesticide application, and harvest; assistance with design and performing of experiments; collecting and organizing data; analysis and summation of results, and; writing reports and grant proposals. Responsible for maintaining records, equipment and supplies and assist with supervision of support staff and student employees. Act as a liaison between project personnel and outside individuals/organizations.
Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
Bachelor’s degree in horticulture, plant science, or related field and one to two years of related experience. Effective verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of and experience with computers including word processing, spread sheets, and web-based functions. Ability to drive to and from research sites. Must be able to operate and drive farm equipment. A VT pesticide applicator license (Res. & Dem.) or ability to obtain immediately upon employment will be required. Valid drivers license required must pass pre-employment driver’s license record check.
Desirable Qualifications
Knowledge of fruit production – in horticulture and pest management and from a research and industry perspective. Knowledge of statistics and experimental designs as they apply to horticultural and pest management research.
Anticipated Pay Range $21.58- $23 per hour

This position is partially funded through extramural funding.
Special Conditions A probationary period may be required, Contingent on continued funding, Occasional evening and/or weekends required (if non-exempt position, may result in overtime), Travel to and from worksites required, This position is ineligible for telework due to the essential functions, Background Check required for this position
