The Patient Care Technician on the Clinical Decision Unit at MD Anderson Cancer Center provides patient care services as assigned by a registered nurse and directly impacts patient comfort and outcome of care.
The ideal candidate must have a high school diploma, have a CNA certification, and at least one year of patient care experience in a hospital setting. The candidate must be available to work a 36-hour Evening/Night shift, Monday - Friday, with rotating weekends and holidays, 7:00pm - 7:00am.
The Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) is an outpatient unit that provides observation services to patients that do not meet the admission criteria. A designated 16-bed medical unit where adult patients in need of additional monitoring, diagnostic evaluation and/or treatment may be placed while a clinical decision is being made to admit the patient for hospitalization or discharge the patient for further care. Available for patient care 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including holidays.
Hourly breakdown of salary range:
Minimum $18.27 - Midpoint $22.84 - Maximum $27.40

Essential Job Functions:
• Provides patient care services as assigned by a registered nurse.
• Impacts patient comfort and outcome of care.
• Acts as member of a multidisciplinary team that identifies and addresses patient care needs.
• Assists in completion of activities of daily living, mobilization, admit/discharge and obtaining vital signs.
• Updates and retrieves patient information.
• Ensures patient environment is maintained in a clean, safe and orderly manner.
• Acts as part of an assigned care team.
• Other duties as assigned.
Education Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
Education Preferred: None.
Experience Required: None
Experience Preferred: One year experience in an acute care hospital setting as a Nursing Assistant.
Licensure/Certification Required: None.
Licensure/Certification Preferred: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
Other Required: Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
