    SUMMARY:

    The Behavior Support Specialist works collaboratively with school leadership and instructional staff to develop and implement effective behavior intervention strategies and positive behavior supports. The Behavior Support Specialist provides behavior analysis services and supports the implementation of behavior intervention plans for students who receive special education services, as well as general education students who may be identified for targeted support through the Multi-tiered System of Supports (Tiers 2 and 3). The Behavior Support Specialist also provides technical assistance and support for school-wide implementation of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS). This is a district-level position whose work is performed across multiple schools, with considerable latitude for independent judgement in accordance with the policies and procedures set forth by the Department of Special Education and Student Support Services.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    + Provides direction and support for school personnel who conduct Functional Behavior Assessments for students who have behavior concerns and are receiving supports through MTSS Tier 2 or 3, or special education services.

    + Provides direction and support for school personnel to create and adjust plans for students who require specific behavior interventions.

    + Analyzes behavioral intervention plans and school-wide behavior data to measure school success in meeting students' behavioral needs and social-emotional development.

    + Regularly attends each school's building level meetings to provide technical assistance for teams to effectively develop and implement behavior intervention plans as recommended through the MTSS, PBIS, CST, and/or CSE/CPSE data-driven decision-making process

    + Provides direction and support for school personnel who are responsible for the implementation of behavior intervention plans.

    + Collaborates with building and district leadership to develop and modify systems for the analysis and improvement of student behavior.

    + Provides professional development for certified and non-certified staff in classroom management theory and techniques, behavioral data collection, and service delivery for behavior analysis and intervention.

    + Participates in required and other job-related professional development activities to improve or maintain certification/skills.

    + Assists with supervision and evaluation of classroom teachers and student support personnel.

    + Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or designee

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Graduate degree from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Master's degree of higher in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or Human Services and two (2) years of full-time experience working with students with disabilities.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT:

    Must hold a valid certificate as a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and/or New York State Licensed Behavior Analyst (LBA). (Requirement established by NY Education Law 8804 and 8 NYCRR 79-17)

    SALARY:

    $65,000 - $80,000
