    Description of Job

    WHAT YOU WILL DO

    A reallocation job announcement occurs when an encumbered classified position is being promoted to a higher level classification. Additionally, the current employee has already been assigned to perform the higher level duties.

     

    This position is located in the Peace Officers Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) Unit within the Criminal Justice section of the Colorado Attorney General's Office. The Unit exists to assist the P.O.S.T. Board with the requirements of the statutorily mandated P.O.S.T. created curriculum and the supervision of training efforts of Colorado peace officers. The Unit is responsible for ensuring training needs of the law enforcement community are met by regularly developing and changing existing curriculum, setting and maintaining standards of law enforcement training academies, certifying and decertifying peace officers, and the administration of large amounts of grant funds for peace officer training.

     

    This position performs program administration and administrative assistance for the certification process. This includes assisting in gathering all relevant documents and data needed to determine if a candidate is in compliance with statutory standards for peace officer certification eligibility. This position reviews and approves all POST academies, including detailed schedules and ensures POST requirements are met. This position coordinates all POST exams by coordinating staffing for exams, proctoring the exams both locally and in rural areas of the state and arranging individual tests and retests. This position handles accounting and all invoicing related to exams and certification. This position is the point of contact for all applicants/officers seeking a variance from POST Rule. Assists other compliance staff members with other administrative tasks related to certification as needed, as well as administrative tasks within the POST unit. Performs other tasks as required.

    Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

    WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

    Minimum Qualifications: Please document all relevant experience in detail on your application. Experience will not be inferred or assumed. Any part-time experience listed will be prorated.

    Experience Only:

    Four (4) years of experience providing administrative or program administration support in a law enforcement agency.

     

    + Experience must include at least one (1) year providing support for peace officer standards and training functions.

    OR

    Education and Experience:

    A combination of related education and providing administrative or program administration support in a law enforcement agency equal to four (4) years. Please note, education may only substitute for 1 year of the required experience.

    + Experience must include at least one (1) year providing support for peace officer standards and training functions

     

    If qualifying under the substitution, you will be required to provide a copy of your transcripts.

     

    Note: Candidates possessing a foreign degree must submit a translation (evaluation) of their degree from an accredited institution, such as The National Association of Credential Evaluations Services in order to be given credit for the degree.

    Preferred Qualifications:In addition to the minimum qualifications, the preferred applicant will also demonstrate and clearly describe the following skills and experience in their job application:

    •Experience working in the POST unit at the Department of Law

    •Experience beyond one year providing support for peace officer standards and training functions;

    •Experience conducting compliance reviews and demonstrated strong attention to detail;

    •Experience providing administrative support in an organization that deals with large volumes of information, meetings, events, or other areas of work requiring meticulous organization and attention to detail;

    •Experience working for and providing support to a Board;

    •Experience working in a licensing/certification setting.
