    Student Health and Well-Being Mental Health Services seeks an experienced, organized, and mission-driven **_Associate Director of Clinical Services_** to lead within a dynamic and fast-paced system focused on delivering innovative mental health care and supporting the well-being of a diverse community of learners.

     

    The Associate Director of Clinical Services leads the day-to-day operations of the Mental Health Services East Baltimore clinic. The Associate Director of Clinical Services collaborates closely with the Clinical Services Team to ensure smooth clinical operations and equitable, culturally responsive care. The Associate Director of Clinical Services is responsible for access strategy and the scheduling and allocation of Initial Consultation and Intake visits, and for monitoring clinician practice to guidelines. The role requires substantial cross-site collaboration with direct supervisors of clinical staff to ensure multidimensional supervision, timely feedback, and support for professional growth. The Associate Director of Clinical Services will actively model and facilitate teamwork, staff engagement, and commitment to the mission and goals of Mental Health Services and the Student Health and Well-Being division. The East Baltimore clinic is located at 933 N. Wolfe Street. Mental Health Services operates four clinic locations, including Homewood, Washington, DC, at the Hopkins Bloomberg Center, and Assessment and Neurodiversity Services practice at Homewood; all offer in-person and telehealth options.

     

    The Associate Director of Clinical Services serves as a senior consultant to clinicians and administrative staff on clinical and customer service matters, represents Counseling and Psychological Services on relevant committees, and liaises with divisional student affairs and support offices across the University, including the Schools of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing, which are located on the East Baltimore campus.

     

    The successful candidate will be a skilled practitioner with strong organizational and leadership skills, and experience supporting clinical service delivery models, data management, and reporting. The service model includes Initial Consultations, goal-oriented individual therapy, group programs, single-session consultations, and services for learners stepping down from or at risk of entering higher levels of care. The Associate Director of Clinical Services provides ancillary support for MHS involvement in the medical leave of absence process.

     

    This position is based at the East Baltimore clinic. Flexible hours are required at key times in the academic year, including evenings and weekends. The Associate Director of Clinical Services will participate in the MHS leadership team call schedule, which provides consultative support to the JHU Behavioral Health Crisis Support Team.

    Specific Duties and Responsibilities

    + This position’s direct clinical service and supervisory responsibilities will be primarily based at the East Baltimore clinic but may provide virtual or in-person services at other clinic locations depending on demand and specialty. See minimum qualifications for required timeframes of licensure. Jurisdictions required - **Maryland** and **Washington, D.C.**

    _Supervision and Administrative Duties (70%)_

    + Leads the clinical operations of the East Baltimore clinic.

    + Advises administrative staff and clinicians on clinical decision-making, scheduling conflicts, coverage, customer service, and coordination with BHCST for facilitation of hospitalization.

    + Leads and participates in multi-disciplinary clinical and administrative teams including clinic staff meetings, case consultation, High-Risk Case Consultation, peer chart reviews, medical leave review, accreditation, and other committees as directed.

    + Collaborates closely with the MHS leadership team to ensure consistent expectations, clinic flow, and equitable distribution of duties.

    + Oversees schedule templates and develops performance targets for clinicians.

    + Contributes to the development and maintenance of clinical policies, procedures, and other written materials to support effective clinic operations.

    + Contributes to reports, needs assessments, quality improvement processes, and evaluations of clinical services.

    + Supports onboarding and training plans for East Baltimore clinical staff; contributes to training of staff at other locations as appropriate.

    + Effectively manages direct reports, including goal setting, performance evaluations, performance management, and related HR processes; works collaboratively with Clinical Services leadership team members to provide multi-dimensional supervision to all clinicians.

    + Leads or participates in clinical provider searches and participates in MHS-wide recruitment and hiring processes.

    + Leads and contributes to staff development, engagement, and teambuilding activities for East Baltimore staff as well as larger MHS-wide events.

    _Direct Clinical Service (approximately 15%, based on demand and clinic needs)_

    + Creates a warm and welcoming clinical environment where clients feel supported and respected as they pursue their personal, academic, and professional goals.

    + When clinic demand is high, provides culturally responsive direct clinical services, including goal-oriented approaches to initial consultations, intake assessments, single-session consultation, individual counseling, group and relationship counseling, and crisis intervention for a diverse community of learners.

    + Utilizes both flexible and goal-oriented approaches to individual treatment, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and interpersonal therapy, often in collaboration with psychiatry providers.

    + Collaborates with providers within SHWB as an interdisciplinary treatment team.

    + Consults, as appropriate, with providers in the community to facilitate continuity of care.

    _Collaborative and Other Activities (15%)_

    + Serves as needed as a liaison to Primary Care at East Baltimore and to school-based CARE teams, including BSPH, SON, and SOM.

    + Participates in outreach and educational activities, including resource fairs, community meetings, and training for JHU faculty, staff, and students.

    + Participates in training programs and professional development of staff through the provision of didactic training, consultation, and seminars.

    + Remains abreast of current literature and research on student behavioral health and evidence-based interventions.

    + Actively contributes to MHS leadership team activities and clinical services strategic planning.

    + Participates in MHS leadership team call rotation.

    + Other duties as assigned.

    Special Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities

    + Experience with clinical service delivery models that are flexible and prioritize health equity and supporting populations that are historically underserved in mental health services utilization.

    + Experience independently developing and executing presentations, programs, and events for a wide audience.

    + Clinical experience with presenting concerns prevalent within the student and learner population is strongly preferred; examples include identity development, trauma, anxiety, mood disorders, disordered eating, co-occurring substance use disorders, sleep disorders, and ADHD.

    + Bilingual proficiency is highly desirable.

    _Additional Info (Working Conditions)_

    + This is a 37.5 hour/week position

    + This position requires evening and weekend work dependent on the programmatic needs of the University and for activities during the academic year (e.g., orientation, special events, etc.)

    + One day of remote work is standard; additional remote days may be required or permitted based on operational needs

    + This position is designated as a Required Attendance Employee, designated as vital to the operation of a work group, so may be required to work during a university closure in response to operational needs.

    Minimum Qualifications

    + Master's Degree in Counseling, Psychology, or Social Work from an accredited institution.

    + Minimum of 5 years of post-licensure clinical experience.

    + Minimum of 2 years of clinical supervisory experience.

    + Minimum of 1 year of experience in a supervisory role responsible for the management and evaluation of employees.

    + Licensed as a mental health provider in required jurisdiction(s) noted in job description (psychologist, LMFT, LCPC, LCSW-C) or license-eligible (licensed as a mental health provider in another jurisdiction, must obtain licensure in required jurisdiction(s) within 6 months of hire).

    + Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Doctoral Degree (Ph.D., Psy.D., DSW or relevant terminal degree) from an accredited program.

    + Experience with APA-approved training programs as a clinical supervisor and familiarity with the compliance requirements for accreditation of APA-approved internships in health service psychology.

    + Clinical experience in a university setting strongly preferred.
