    Position Overview:

    Mechanical Fabrication Department provides manufacturing services to fabricate, assemble, and process devices for SLAC and other related institutions. Employees install, maintain, and repair accelerator and photon science mechanical and vacuum systems.

     

    The department has an opening for Accelerator Technologist II where the employee will work under general supervision and perform assignments of moderate complexity in vacuum and particle free assembly and while collaborating in one or more areas of mechanical assembly and/or field installation.

     

    The Technologist II is moderately proficient and will collaborate on a block of work with a senior technician while following strict adherence to site-specific safety as well as work planning and control (WPC) protocols. Assignments will be on Particle free vacuum assembly and installation, coordinating as well as planning and scheduling to complete a set block of work.

     

    Given the nature of this position, SLAC will require onsite work.

    Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

    **Vacuum Assembly and Field Work** :

    + Plan and execute a range of basic to moderate field installation and maintenance of vacuum systems.

    + Assemble, modify, fabricate, upgrade and/or repair vacuum systems of simple to moderate complexity from engineering drawings, sketches, and verbal instructions.

    + Collaborate with crews while preforming moderate field installations and removals of complex experimental and support equipment from LINAC, Facet, and related field locations.

    + Troubleshoot, leak check, bake-out and install/remove systems components and equipment.

    + Interpret RGA scans to determine if a part meets UHV criteria.

    + Collect and analyze data as needed for troubleshooting or system performanceevaluations.

    Particle Free Work

    + Apply particle free cleaning and assembly practices and procedures.

    + Collaborate on the particle free installation of components and assemblies in the field.

    + Collaborate on the maintenance of LCLS-II particle free Linac.

    Planning/Scheduling

    + Follow instruction from lead technicians, engineers, managers, scientists.

    + Recommend and/or make improvements to design or processes.

    + Provide guidance to other technicians/technologists in vacuum science; installation of newbeamline components; process techniques; material handling and processes; this includes working with pressurized gas, water, and air systems; and other associated tasks.

    + Write hoisting and rigging procedures.

    + Attend all applicable ES&H training as it becomes available and obtains ES&Hcertifications that is required and apply it in your work. Ensure crew is following all proper ES&H rules and processes. Ensure all proper permits are acquired and followed.

    + Communicate and coordinate with various groups to work in the field including the alignment group, machinists, welders, radiation protections services, safety managers, area managers, engineers, contractors, physicists, technicians, riggers, stores personnel, and others as required.

    **Note:** This is a 12-month fixed term position with the possibility of extension for a maximum of a 24-months if project needs continue beyond initial term length.

    Qualifications:

    + Demonstrated ability to proficiently perform duties listed above.

    + The successful candidate must have at least two years of journey level ultra-high vacuum and particle free assemble experience or have an equivalent combination of vocational school, on the job training and experience.

    + Working knowledge and expertise of various leak detectors, vacuum pumps, gauges, flanges, and hardware.

    + Must possess analysis skills and know the theory of operation of equipment.

    + Has thorough knowledge of Residual Gas Analyzer fundamental practices and technology.

    + Possess moderate skill in particle free assembly and installation.

    + Must be able to teach other technologist particle free applications.

    + Working knowledge of vacuum science fundamental practices and technology.

    + Has a working knowledge of characteristics and properties on various materials.

    + Operates a variety of hand and power tools.

    + Licensed as a forklift, overhead crane, and motor vehicle operator.

    + Has a working knowledge of basic arithmetic and measuring systems.

    + Possesses a thorough knowledge of vacuum methods and procedures and has an ability to organize and maintain records and materials in an efficient manner.

    + Must possess a valid California Driver's License and a good driving record for driving vehicles around SLAC site.

    + Ability to work swing and owl shifts.

    This position is represented by SEIU Local 2007 and the collective bargaining agreement between the university and SEIU Local 2007 governs the terms and conditions of employment.

     

    _The expected pay range for this position is $49.88 (Step 1) - $60.28 (Step 10) per hour. Placement in the range is subject to the applicable Collective Bargaining Unit. SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory/Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs._
