Brief Description of Duties:
Medical Billing & Coding Instructor provides in-person classroom instruction to adult learners preparing for the Certified Medical Reimbursement Specialist (CMRS) examination through the American Medical Billing Association (AMBA). The instructor is responsible for teaching all major components of the medical billing and coding process over a structured 15-week program, including medical terminology, CPT/HCPCS and ICD-10-CM coding, insurance billing, reimbursement procedures, and compliance regulations.
Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Key Responsibilities:
Instruction & Classroom Management
+ Deliver in-person instruction for a 15-week Medical Billing & Coding curriculum aligned with CMRS competencies.
Teach core topics including:
+ Medical terminology and anatomy
+ Insurance claims processing
+ Coding systems (ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS)
+ Electronic Health Records (EHR) and claim submission
+ Compliance, HIPAA, and fraud prevention
+ Reimbursement methodologies and payer systems
Prepare students for the AMBA CMRS certification exam, including practice tests and exam strategies.
Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student progress.
Curriculum & Assessment
+ Follow and enhance the established 15-week CMRS preparation curriculum.
+ Develop lesson plans, quizzes, and exams that align with AMBA's CMRS exam blueprint.
+ Provide individualized feedback and support to help students master complex billing and coding concepts.
+ Evaluate and report student outcomes in accordance with institutional and accrediting standards.
Student Engagement & Support
+ Create a professional, inclusive, and motivating classroom environment.
+ Provide extra help sessions or tutoring when needed.
+ Advise students on career readiness and certification pathways.
+ Encourage consistent attendance, accountability, and professional ethics.
Program Administration
+ Communicate regularly with program coordinators or academic supervisors regarding student progress.
+ Ensure course delivery meets institutional expectations for quality, compliance, and learning outcomes.
+ Participate in faculty meetings, training sessions, and curriculum updates as requested.
Job Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications
+ - Associate degree OR industry certification/licensure
+ - Two years of experience working in a Medical Billing and Coding or Medical Records environment
+ - Knowledge of Medical Billing and Coding procedures and third-party insurance billing procedures
+ - Active billing and coding credentials related to the organizations above such as CMRS, CMCS, CCS, CPC, CPC-1, CPB
+ - An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
