Your role and responsibilities
As a UI/UX Design Intern, you’ll work alongside experienced designers and researchers at IBM Studios Austin. You’ll contribute to the design of intuitive, user-centered experiences while learning industry best practices and tools.
Your responsibilities may include:
• Assisting UX researchers in testing concepts with users and integrating findings into design directions.
• Supporting the creation of low- and high-fidelity mockups, prototypes, and design specifications using tools like Figma.
• Helping design user flows, interactions, and layouts using IBM’s design systems.
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams including product management, engineering, and marketing.
• Participating in agile ceremonies, design critiques, and team workshops.
• Engaging in learning opportunities to grow your design skills and understanding of enterprise software.
Required technical and professional expertise
• Currently pursuing a degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Examples of design work (coursework, personal projects, or freelance) that demonstrate an understanding of user-centered design.
• Familiarity with design tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, or similar.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred technical and professional experience
• Awareness of inclusive design and accessibility principles.
• Exposure to design systems, agile practices, or design thinking (through coursework or personal exploration).
• Curiosity and a desire to learn and grow in a collaborative environment.
• Self-motivation and a positive attitude.
