Overview
Catholic Charities of Buffalo is currently seeking a full-time Grants and Contracts Accountant. This position is responsible for managing and overseeing the financial aspects of grants and contracts, including compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The role supports the grant application process, maintains accurate documentation, and ensures timely financial reporting. Additional responsibilities include budget development, monitoring subcontractor payments, and recommending improvements to accounting systems. The position collaborates closely with the Director of Finance and program leadership to ensure fiscal integrity and effective fund management.

Job Responsibilities
+ Manage and oversee financial aspects of grants and contracts, ensuring compliance with federal, state, local, and agency guidelines.
+ Gather required information, prepare responses to RFPs and letters of intent, and submit grant applications for CFO approval.
+ Maintain agency contract database, grant files (electronic and paper), and monitor documentation for grant-funded programs.
+ Handle contract-related insurance requests and assist with audit inquiries.
+ Initiate and maintain communication with agency funders.
+ Collaborate with the Director of Finance to develop and implement procedures for compliance with grant and contract requirements.
+ Manage financial reporting and analysis, including preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for funding sources.
+ Review and evaluate financial records, budget allocations, and monitor subcontractor payments and cash flow.
+ Recommend improvements or revisions to accounting systems and procedures.
+ Apply principles of nonprofit accounting to analyze financial information and prepare accurate financial reports.
+ Complies with the Agency's Compliance Program, Code of Ethics, laws, regulations, and ethical standards applicable to your job duties.
+ Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
+ Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or related field.
+ Minimum of five years' experience in budget preparation, financial analysis, and reporting.
+ Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
+ Experience in nonprofit accounting, particularly with government-funded contracts and grants, preferred.
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
+ Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines under pressure.
+ Detail-oriented, accurate, and self-checking with strong problem-solving abilities.
+ Ability to maintain professional, effective interpersonal relationships and collaborate across all levels of the organization.
+ Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Word; experience with MIP Accounting software is a plus.
