The Senior Director, Medical Affairs Solutions & Analytics provides oversight and spearheads Global Medical Affairs (GMA) business enablement and analytic strategy. This role defines and directs the vision, design, and execution of innovative business processes, systems, and data-driven solutions that enhance GMA operational excellence and drive scientific impact across the portfolio. The role will liaise with internal teams (e.g., Otsuka IT) and vendors to apply systems, platforms and operational frameworks to GMA that enable insight-driven decision-making, measurable performance, and enterprise-wide alignment.
As a key leadership role within the GMA team, this role partners closely with functional heads across GMA and cross-functional teams to drive innovation and operational excellence.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
Business Strategy and Governance
+ Define and direct the global business solutions and analytics strategy for GMA, ensuring alignment with enterprise objectives and therapeutic area priorities
+ Liaise with Otsuka internal teams to apply governance frameworks, performance metrics, and operating models to GMA, supporting efficient, compliant, and scalable Medical Affairs execution
+ Partner with Medical Excellence & Operations lead and other business unit leads to translate Medical Affairs strategic imperatives into clearly defined KPIs, enabling data-driven evaluation of impact
+ Drive adoption of standardized processes, systems, and performance frameworks across regions and across GMA teams
Analytics, Insights, and Performance Measurement
+ Improve and expand upon the implementation of advanced analytics and reporting capabilities to measure the effectiveness and impact of Medical Affairs activities
+ Analyze field teams’ input and insights to identify emerging scientific trends, stakeholder needs, and opportunities to inform medical strategy and evidence generation priorities
+ Oversee implementation of KPIs that evaluate field medical performance, evidence generation, publications, and scientific exchange
+ Support integration of data from customer relationship management, publication, real-world evidence, and digital engagement systems to generate actionable insights
+ Champion innovation in analytics methodology, leveraging AI/machine learning and predictive modeling to optimize resource allocation and scientific engagement
Digital and Business Solutions Enablement
+ Direct the design and global deployment of technology solutions that enable efficient Medical Affairs operations as needed, including Medical customer relationship management, insights management, and planning platforms
+ Partner with IT and external vendors to identify, evaluate, and implement new digital capabilities that enhance data accessibility, visualization, and decision support
+ Drive digital transformation initiatives that modernize Medical Affairs workflows and reporting
+ Manage the Business Solutions and Analytics team’s budget when enabling solutions
Cross-Functional Leadership
+ Collaborate with GMA teams (e.g., medical strategy sub team, medical communications sub team, medical communications sub team) to implement data driven solutions aligned to strategic needs
+ Build & maintain the technological infrastructure, business tools, and data analytics, including the medical information contact center, to enable GMA teams to operate efficiently
+ Represent Medical Affairs on global data governance, analytics, and digital councils to influence enterprise-level strategy
+ Lead and mentor a global team of analytics professionals and system specialists, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and accountability
+ Build and manage relationships with technology vendors, analytics partners, and external consultants to ensure timely, high-quality deliverables
Operational Excellence and Change Leadership
+ Direct large-scale initiatives to streamline business operations, improve data transparency, and enhance decision-making across the GMA business
+ Shape and lead change management strategies that support adoption of new tools, analytics frameworks, and digital solutions
+ Ensure business continuity, audit readiness, and compliance with internal policies and external regulations
+ Consider technology and AI to support workflow improvement
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
+ Advanced degree required in data science, systems, analytics, computer science, or related discipline
+ Minimum of 10-12 years of experience in leading business solutions and analytics, and at least 5-7 years in Medical Affairs or R&D within a pharmaceutical company
+ Demonstrated success directing global analytics, business operations, or digital transformation initiatives within Medical Affairs
+ Proven track record of building and leading cross-functional teams to design and implement enterprise-wide business systems and performance measurement frameworks
+ Experience managing large budgets, vendor relationships, and technology implementation programs
+ Deep understanding of Medical Affairs processes, data systems (e.g., Veeva, Tableau, etc.), and global compliance standards

+ Exceptional strategic leadership, with the ability to define and execute long-term vision for analytics and business solutions
+ Superior analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to translate complex data into actionable insights that enable informed decision-making at the leadership level
+ Strong business and scientific acumen with deep understanding of Medical Affairs operations and governance
+ Proven ability to lead digital transformation and data integration across global functions
+ Outstanding communication and executive organizational change skills, with demonstrated capability of aligning diverse stakeholders to strategic priorities
+ Demonstrated ability to drive operational excellence, manage competing priorities, and deliver high-impact results in a matrixed environment
+ Demonstrated passion for integrating emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence and machine learning, to enhance data interpretation, workflow automation, and strategic decision-making within Medical Affairs

Minimum $225,490.00 - Maximum $337,180.00, plus incentive opportunity: The range shown represents a typical pay range or starting pay for individuals who are hired in the role to perform in the United States. Other elements may be used to determine actual pay such as the candidate’s job experience, specific skills, and comparison to internal incumbents currently in role. Typically, actual pay will be positioned within the established range, rather than at its minimum or maximum. This information is provided to applicants in accordance with states and local laws.
