    GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a federally funded grant program designed to provide services to students, schools and families to support college and career readiness. The Idaho Department of Education is looking for eligible candidates to apply for the GEAR UP Coordinator position.

     

    The GEAR UP Coordinator serves a critical function around the administration and implementation of day-to-day activities, and contributes to the strategic vision for the GEAR UP Idaho program. GEAR UP Idaho serves nearly 6,000 students and 28 schools. Specific responsibilities include: supporting program implementation, partner development, managing budget, data collect, supporting the training for staff needs, and providing technical assistance to GEAR UP School Coordinators and other personnel. This position is part of the larger state of Idaho initiatives to improve and foster college and career readiness for k-12.

     

    Work is performed under the guidance of, and in collaboration with, the GEAR UP Idaho Statewide Coordinator. Travel throughout the state and nation for training and monitoring is required. This is a full-time position serving under an appointment of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction. The coordinator is part of the Student Engagement and School Choice department at the Idaho Department of Education.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Support GEAR UP grant implementation.

    • Support the compliance of federal and state policies and guidelines of college and career readiness programs (e.g. Advanced Opportunities, GEAR UP, and graduation requirements).

    • Develop tools and partnerships to promote GEAR UP and college and career advocacy.

    • Support school coordinator collaboration and effectively communicate resources and program requirements to school coordinators.

    • Track student services implementation and evaluate data elements to ensure GEAR UP Idaho is on track to meet stated performance indicators and objectives.

    • Integrate SDE initiatives and priorities into daily grant activities.

    • Maintain records for reports and approvals, match tracking, and various data collection and verification.

    • Assist in managing, developing, and integrating GEAR UP Idaho (and other) professional learning communities.

    • Serve as GEAR UP Idaho and SDE representative on various committees.

    • Coordinate and support various conferences and events such as GEAR UP training and Idaho College and Career readiness professional development.

    • Assist in the facilitation of school site coordinator and professional development.

    • Support the sub-award agreement and new and end of year processes.

    • Develop and disseminate support materials.

    • Build partnerships and collaboration with industry, state agencies, colleges and universities, and other organizations to foster a system of support for GEAR UP and college and career readiness.

    • Support contacting needs for the management of college and career readiness initiatives.

    • Continuously evaluate program effectiveness and recommend adjustments for improvement.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university in education or a related field is required.

    • Minimum of two years of experience working in a field related to student college and career preparedness.

    • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel, including the ability to use functions such as pivot tables

    • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing in a variety of public settings, including large groups.

    • Ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders.

    • High level of attention to detail and the ability to manage projects from inception to completion.

    • Ability to work independently, research and make informed decisions/recommendations.

    • Ability to effectively manage simultaneous projects and priorities in a dynamic work environment.

    • Ability to assert strong leadership and work collaboratively in a team environment.

    • Ability to travel throughout Idaho and to national meetings as required.

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Master’s degree or equivalent in a related field.

    • More than two years supporting college and career readiness in middle school.

    • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to work with large data sets.

    • Experience in K-12 programs.

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: (with or without reasonable accommodation)

    This position requires the ability to perform the following physical and job-related tasks:

    • Operate standard office equipment such as a computer, telephone, copier, and scanner.

    • Perform general administrative duties including typing, filing, answering phones, processing paperwork, and assembling office materials.

    • Read, review, and process both printed and digital documents.

    • Navigate websites and online systems; identify and respond to safety concerns; greet and assist visitors.

    • Maintain focus and attention to detail for extended periods.

    • Understand, communicate, and follow through on program support tasks and responsibilities.

    • Approximately 90% of time is spent sitting at a desk or workstation, up to 4 hours at a time.

    • Approximately 10% of time is spent standing, walking, bending, or kneeling.

    • Occasionally lift items, typically weighing under 5 lbs., and occasionally up to 20 lbs.

    TRAVEL REQUIRED:

    This position requires approximately 20% travel time throughout the state and nationally for training and monitoring.

    ADDITIONAL BENEFITS INCLUDE:

    Vesting in the Public Employee Retirement System of Idaho (PERSI): All employees of the Idaho Department of Education are non-classified. They are appointed by the elected official and serve at the pleasure of the elected official. As such, employees working at a non-classified agency are considered vested in the PERSI retirement system after five (5) consecutive months of service, versus five (5) years of service at a classified agency.

     

    Tuition Fee Waiver: All Idaho Department of Education employees in permanent full-time positions may register for instructional courses during any academic period, at any participating state funded institutions of higher education, for a $20.00 nonrefundable registration fee per semester and $5.00 per credit hour charge.
