Job Title: Research AssociateJob Description

We are seeking a dedicated Research Associate to join our dynamic team in Carlsbad, CA. The initial focus will be on microbiology projects, with a subsequent expansion into molecular biology. This position involves executing straightforward, repetitive tasks with precision, including bacterial culturing and UV Vis spectrophotometry to monitor microbial growth. The role offers the opportunity to work with blood samples, for which comprehensive training and PPE are provided. You will be mentored by experienced scientists and contribute to developing innovative solutions in molecular diagnostics.

Responsibilities

+ Execute bacterial culturing and plating to grow bacteria.

+ Perform UV Vis spectrophotometry to monitor microbial growth.

+ Work with blood samples in a BSL-2 facility with appropriate PPE and training.

+ Design and implement experiments to develop and optimize assays on the bench and within consumable devices.

+ Take detailed notes and follow good documentation practices.

+ Summarize and communicate experimental data and draw conclusions independently.

+ Identify and resolve assay and device performance issues.

Essential Skills

+ Proficiency in assay development and PCR techniques.

+ Experience with bacterial culturing and microbiology.

+ Strong aseptic technique and lab organizational skills.

+ Sound knowledge of chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, and immunology.

+ Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

+ Ability to work independently and in multi-disciplinary teams.

+ Proficiency in computer skills, including email, word processing, Excel, and graphing software.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ BA/BS or MA/MS in life sciences with 2+ years of relevant laboratory experience.

+ Experience in in vitro diagnostics and molecular diagnostics.

Work Environment

Join a collaborative team of 4-5 scientists and 4-5 engineers, working together to innovate in molecular diagnostic systems and laboratory automation within disposable devices. The position is based in Carlsbad, CA, within a cutting-edge consulting firm passionate about advancing global health through strategic problem-solving and innovation.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Carlsbad, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $35.00/hr.
