    Job Title: Phlebotomist IIJob Description

     

    We are seeking a skilled and bilingual Phlebotomist II, proficient in both Spanish and English, to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, and updating patient information. You will be responsible for collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures and explaining the process of venipuncture and specimen collection to patients in a clear and courteous manner.

    Responsibilities

    + Perform blood draws and labeling of specimens.

    + Centrifuge specimens and record maintenance data.

    + Decontaminate and update patient information.

    + Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.

    + Clearly explain the process of venipuncture and specimen collection to patients.

    + Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.

    + Understand and follow all physicians' orders.

    + Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.

    + Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.

    + Check test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy.

    + Package specimens for transport and store samples according to required temperatures.

    + Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.

    + Attend annual department trainings.

    + Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results.

    Essential Skills

    + Proficiency in phlebotomy, blood draw, venipuncture, and specimen collection.

    + Experience with specimen processing, including pediatric and geriatric patients.

    + Strong data entry skills and attention to detail.

    + Effective communication and customer service skills.

    + Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.

    + Minimum of 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.

    + Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + High School Diploma or GED.

    + 2-4 years of experience in a related field.

    Work Environment

    Work in a dynamic and fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting. The role requires adherence to safety protocols and procedures, including understanding and compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations. Participate in annual training programs to stay updated on best practices and new techniques. The position involves frequent interaction with patients, requiring excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively in both Spanish and English.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr.
