About LaPorte Juvenile Correctional Facility:
As a part of the Indiana Department of Correction, the LaPorte Juvenile Correctional Facility (LPJCF) promotes public safety by providing meaningful, effective opportunities for successful re-entry. The LaPorte Juvenile Correctional Facility is an intake and multi-level security facility for juvenile females. LaPorte Juvenile Correctional Facility is located in LaPorte, Indiana. LaPorte Juvenile Correctional Facility was established in 2017 by converting an existing juvenile facility (Camp Summit Boot Camp) into a female juvenile facility. It is the only female juvenile facility in Indiana. LaPorte Juvenile also serves as the intake facility for all female juveniles committed to the Indiana Department of Correction.
Role Overview:
Your work will be performed within the guidelines established by the Department of Correction and American Correctional Association (ACA) standards. Guidelines are generally applicable, but you must use judgment in dealing with unpredictable actions or unusual situations. Judgment is also necessary in the development of appropriate lesson plans, and to meet course objectives. The work is broad in scope and involves many variables when dealing with the unique problems of individual students who may be dealing with physical and/or mental disabilities. The supervisor does not issue specific instructions before the course of work but discusses the general objectives of the course to be taught and of the educational mission of the institution. The supervisor may also offer suggestions related to the preparation of lesson plans or solutions to unique problems. Work is reviewed on a regular interval by the supervisor for compliance with the laws, regulations, procedures, and standards. You will have full responsibility for many non-routine decisions in determining student progress and methods and materials to be used in teaching. In the event of an emergency, you must immediately exhibit effective leadership. The consequences of error could be extreme if disturbances were to occur.
Salary Statement:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $47,320.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
A Day in the Life:
The essential functions of this role are as follows:
+ Serve as a social worker or a case manager and perform mental health assessments of incarcerated youth.
+ Gather needed information to determine needs and establish a treatment plan for the incarcerated youth by providing pre-admission evaluations and progress notes.
+ Plan and implement therapeutic techniques best suited to incarcerated youth development and treatment needs.
+ Monitor incarcerated youth progress throughout the treatment plan.
+ Assess incarcerated youth needs on the areas of social, educational, occupational, emotional, and physical areas.
+ Consult and liaise with various social service agencies and institutions for needed services to assist the incarcerated youth.
+ Document incarcerated youth progress, attendance, counselling sessions, referrals, prerelease paperwork, and visiting lists, and maintain the incarcerated youth in the Juvenile Data System.

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.
What You'll Need for Success:
You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:
+ a High School Diploma or HSE diploma, and
+ at least 1+ years of experience applying the below, outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role.
Related certifications and coursework may be considered for education or experience.
+ Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
