Who we're looking for
Toyota’s Vehicle Mobility & Engineering 2 (VME2) Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Human Factors Engineer.
In this role, you’ll help shape the future of mobility by developing human-centered usability and packaging performance for North American sedans, SUVs, minivans, and trucks.
Reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager, you’ll play a key role in advancing VME2’s mission to deliver next-generation mobility standards that exceed customer expectations. This is an opportunity to grow into a subject matter expert (SME) and technical leader in Human Factors.
What you'll be doing
Your work will directly influence how customers experience Toyota vehicles. A typical day combines technical problem-solving with creative collaboration, ensuring every design decision enhances usability and delight. Success means delivering innovative solutions that balance functionality, style, and human-centered design.
+ Develop human-centered packaging and HMI usability targets and requirements for world-class mobility solutions
+ Establish and implement platform-wide vehicle performance strategies in partnership with R&D teams in North America and Japan
+ Lead cross-functional development efforts to create solutions that optimize Human Factors performance
+ Identify innovative process improvements to elevate customer experience
+ Conduct customer surveys, analyze data, and create physical and digital proof-of-concepts using model-based and 1D tools
+ Deliver high-quality technical outputs efficiently while continuously learning and growing as a Human Factors engineer
What You Bring
+ Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Vehicle Design, or a related field
+ 3–5 years of experience in Human Factors or UX development
+ 3–5 years of experience setting customer voice-based targets and evaluations
+ 1–2 years of experience leading cross-functional project development teams
+ Willing to work overtime and/or travel (domestic or International) as needed for up to 25%
Added Bonus If You Have
+ Master’s degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering
+ Additional experience that deepens your expertise in Human Factors or UX
+ Familiarity with advanced modeling tools and usability testing frameworks
