    Description of Job:

    Will follow all current SOP’s and will assist in developing new SOP’s where needed.

     

    Applies superior coatings to surfaces of all types of products, including open and closed vessels, agitators, baffles, and all other accessories such as manhole covers, valves, fittings, etc.

     

    Utilizes various coating techniques such as straight spray, spray dust, dual spray, slushing, draw coating, electrostatic, hot dusting, or any other technique. Must attain and maintain thickness uniformity demanded by the market.

     

    Visually inspects coated surfaces of products for flaws and imperfections and tests coatings with a high-voltage spark tester, marking locations. Takes thickness readings and records information. Laps nozzles as required on vessels and accessories. Performs glass repairs as required.

     

    Coaters will participate and contribute to trial and development of new methods, materials, and processes. All members will train others in various functions.

    Operates all furnaces and chargers, including starting and shutting down furnaces including:

    + Working independently or jointly with other co-workers to ensure that pieces are properly dried prior to firing

    + Ensuring that the pieces are properly setup for firing

    + Using the proper firing profile & firing temperature and ensuring that the piece is fired following the programmed firing profile

    + Ensuring that all furnaces are properly operating and maintained

     

    Moves and positions product for proper flow of material within the department, using departmental handling equipment including tow-motor, crane, and stacker crane.

     

    Removes firing supports from tanks and accessories. May also cut up scrap firing rings as well as make cutouts in firing rings.

     

    Cleans out threaded ends on baffles or agitators and laps surfaces to specification.

     

    Assists other members of the glassing departments as required.

     

    Maintains clean and well-organized work areas and performs other related duties as assigned.

     

    Level 1 Coater performs all coating tasks demonstrating consistent high-quality results in compliance with glassing specifications.

     

    Works with very little supervision.

     

    Level 2 Coater performs more complex tasks as skill and experience are achieved, in preparation for Level 1 Coater assignments.

     

    Level 3 Smelter Technician always wear the necessary safety equipment including the company paid fire-proof uniform. Monitors incoming raw materials based on material specifications (bag descriptions). Inventories raw materials and advises supervisor when reorders are necessary. Responsible for storing incoming raw materials under assigned Pfaudler raw material part numbers and in assigned locations.

     

    Weighs the necessary proportions of specified raw materials according to the computer program directions and the smelt batch weigh sheets. Also operates batch mixer as specified.

     

    Smelt glass according to time and temperature specifications: This involves loading smelter, using the smelter temperature controller, dumping/quenching the smelted material, and maintain records of smelt number, process timing and temperature control charts.

     

    Prepares samples and conducts control tests on every smelt to ascertain that glass is to plant standards.

     

    Package frit and mark glass identification and smelt number on the containers. Monitor and maintain a record of frit inventory; identify potential shortages.

     

    Review enamel stock (wet & dry) and schedule mills to maintain stock. Monitor the length of time wet milled enamel has been on the floor (includes mill room and spray locations) and discharging it if its life exceeds specifications.

     

    Weigh and load the components for milling according to the computer program and the enamel mill sheet for each specific enamel. Monitor the milling process to insure the final product is within the fineness range specified. Dump mill when processed as specified and record milling data, and process wet and dry material through scalping screen per specifications. Must also monitor oversized for foreign material. Resize ball mill on a regular basis.

     

    Maintain an inventory of spray guns and spray gun parts. Replace worn parts as needed and keep a record of work done. Supply enamel for the shifts that are set as specified. Record material issued and its characteristics at that time. Assist glassing personnel with related work as assigned.

     

    Prepare frit and dust shipment for exports, and record same on weekly mill record.

     

    Maintain the parts the respirators, clean daily and maintain a record of work done. Must keep area clean which includes cleaning sumps regularly. Report equipment which is broken, or simply not working to standards. Inspect the product at each step in the process and alert QC department if concern exists.

     

    Train other employees on all aspects of his position as required.

     

    Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work area.

     

    Perform other related tasks as assigned.

     

    Level 4 Expeditor/Inspector evaluates all glass-lined equipment as required.

     

    Level 5 Expeditor/Inspector primarily evaluates glass-lined parts, components and small vessels/top heads.

    Progression:

    Employees newly entering either of the Glassing Combo’s will progress from Level 5 to Level 1 as opportunities arise with the following exceptions:

    The senior Lower Level Glassing Combo employee may exercise the option to remain at their current level indefinitely without advancement. The company shall be notified by the employee of this decision prior to advancing to the next higher level position. Upon acceptance of the next higher level position the employee forfeits this option. This option is only available to the senior Lower Level Glassing Combo employee.

    Glassing Combo Definition:

    Upper Level Glassing Combo (no change)

     

    Level 1: (16.5) Perform Coater A & B, Burner, Enamel Expeditor/ Inspector A & B

     

    Level 2: (14) Perform Coater B, Burner, Enamel Expeditor/Inspector A & B

     

    Lower Level Glassing Combo (now includ3es Smelter Technician)

     

    Level 3: (11) Perform Smelter Technician Duties

     

    Level 4: (10) Perform Enamel Expeditor/Inspector A & B

     

    Level 5: (6) Perform Enamel Expeditor/Inspector B

     

    Testing Requirements: Basic Math, fractions, (Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Long Division of whole numbers and fractions). Reading comprehension. A calculator will be allowed. Applicants from the previous glassing posting can re-apply and test for this position.
