    Position Description

    The Administrative Services Officer 4 - Community Outreach and Events Specialist serves as a core member of the communications team and liaison for community outreach and events for the Nashville Department of Transportation & Multimodal Infrastructure. The candidate will be responsible for establishing outreach, and maintaining relationships with community groups, neighborhood associations, and Nashville residents as it relates to the work of NDOT. The candidate will serve as a source of information on departmental programs, activities and initiatives. The candidate will coordinate with program managers across NDOT to facilitate outreach on various NDOT programs, projects, and initiatives, as well as work on traditional marketing and communications tasks related to a variety of department functions.

     

    The Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure delivers a range of services, and the nearly 400 employees work around the clock to ensure a multimodal system that offers choice and better connects neighborhoods, residents, businesses and visitors to the place that they need and want to go to in a safe manner. These employees are responsible for over 2,200 miles of public roadways and rights-of-way, over 6,000 streets, over 300 bridges, 835 traffic signals and over 1,200 miles of bike/sidewalk lanes and much more. Big events in Nashville consist of CMA Festival, Stanley Cup Finals, Titans games, and any number of special events. These require big preparation and big clean-up, and the Nashville Department of Transportation employees are up for the challenge.

    Typical Duties

    + Seeks out and either attends or facilitates NDOT representation at community and special interest meetings and events.

    + Coordinates with NDOT program managers and consultants to ensure programs are being represented at outreach events and opportunities.

    + Works with other communications team members to develop education materials to provide awareness to the community on NDOT initiatives, projects & accomplishments.

    + Organizes or facilitates the organization of meetings to gain public input on Departmental strategic and master plans in collaboration with project managers and project teams.

    + Develops and implements methodology to improve community awareness of NDOT programs.

    + Works with the Metro Council liaison to address constituent concerns related to NDOT.

    + Attends standing neighborhood meetings when needed.

    + Facilitates responses to resident concerns by engaging necessary NDOT staff.

    + Confers and coordinates with other Metro agencies on as needed basis as it relates to community education and events.

    + Receives direction from NDOT’s Marketing & Visual Communications Manager on all matters related to community outreach and NDOT events.

    + Collaborates on NDOT communications functions including media requests, marketing campaigns, social media, and outgoing materials on an as needed basis.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Bachelor’s degree plus (4) four years of experience working in community outreach, event coordination, marketing, public relations or serving as a liaison with a legislative body, community or special interest group.

    Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.

     

    Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

     

    + Current or previous work experience in State or local government.

    + Experience implementing communication and engagement plans for major projects.
