    Idaho Power — headquartered in vibrant Boise, Idaho — is looking for a _Distribution Standards Engineer_ _I or II_ to join our Methods and Materials team. It’s an exciting time to work for Idaho Power.     What does a Distribution Standards Engineer do for us?

     

    This individual provides critical knowledge and expertise necessary to efficiently operate and maintain our distribution power system. This position will work in our Methods and Materials group, who is responsible for creating and maintaining construction manuals, equipment specifications, and work practices essential for operating and maintaining a safe, reliable, and economic power distribution system. This entails providing consultation and guidance to field employees and customers to ensure that proper design and construction practices are followed. The position also evaluates new technology and equipment to improve performance of the system and coordinates closely with vendors, manufacturers, and key stakeholders including field personnel to gain resolution to issues as they arise.

    This position is responsible for:

    + Developing standards, guidelines, and work methods for the design and construction of the overhead and underground power distribution system

    + Providing guidance and training to Linemen, Designers, Engineers, and other key stakeholders

    + Researching and approving new equipment and materials for use on the power distribution system

    + Creating technical specifications for the creation of Catalogue IDs and Compatible Unit Codes

    + Staying current with industry standards, trends, and enhancements in apparatus equipment, materials, and tools used on the distribution system and make changes to improve safety, reliability, or efficiency

    Distribution Standards Engineers also:

    + Plan and lead projects, assignments, and technical investigations

    + Act as a liaison between other internal departments and external organizations

    + Evaluate progress and results, recommending changes in procedures

    + Exercise technical judgment in decision-making and independent action

    + Are responsible for budgeting, financial accountability, and timelines on assigned projects

    + Utilize industry and discipline related knowledge to interpret and comply with regulations as required by NESC, OSHA, NEC, ANSI, IEEE, USERC, etc.

     

    Engineer I

     

    Operating under general supervision and with oversight, an Engineer I is developing technical expertise in their field. This role plans and leads assignments and projects, may interface with internal departments and external organizations, and receives guidance from leaders and other engineers as needed.

    Engineer II

    Operating under limited supervision, an Engineer II has an intermediate level of technical expertise in their field. This role plans and leads moderately complex assignments and projects, interfaces with internal departments and external organizations, and receives high-level guidance from leaders and other engineers as needed.

    A STRONG CANDIDATE WILL HAVE

    Knowledge of:

    + General engineering principles

    + Comprehensive, specific, and progressive knowledge related to discipline

    Preferred:

    + Excellent knowledge of engineering principles as they apply to design and construction of projects including civil, mechanical, and electrical elements

    + Electric utilities and their business environment

    + Safety practices and NESC/NEC requirements

    + Construction methods, materials, standards, and equipment

    + Distribution power operations and maintenance

    + Distribution revenue metering

    Skills in:

    + Troubleshooting

    + Interdisciplinary skills

    + Communication, both oral and written

    + Computers and software use

    + Producing technical reports

    Ability to:

    + Manage and coordinate projects

    + Establish and maintain effective working relationships

    + Work both independently and on project teams

    + Develop alternatives and work with others to evaluate their value and potential for meeting company needs

    + Analyze datasets and databases

    + Draft written and oral reports of problems, alternatives, and recommendations

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Education:

    + Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution or ability to obtain one by December 2025

    OR

    + Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from a non-ABET accredited institution and a Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain one by December 2025

    Experience:

    + **Engineer I –** 0-2 years of related experience

    + **Engineer II** – 2 or more years of related experience

    Preferred:

    + Engineer in Training (EIT) designation

    Licenses & Certifications:

    + Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record based on driving requirements for the position

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

    Travel with out-of-town stays may be required.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    This is an office position with occasional field work, it requires working at a desk/computer for extended periods of time. It requires the use of office equipment, fine motor skills including typing on the computer, dialing phones, filing paper, and working in close proximity to other people. There may be occasional lifts of no more than 10 lbs. Walking on even/uneven surfaces and ascents/descents. The above is a summary of the primary essential functions of the position.
