Position Overview
This position is an employee of Stanford University, providing support to the Department of Energy (DOE) contract at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. The Project Portfolio Management Office (PPMO), under the Office of the Director, is seeking a Senior Project Advisor to provide project assurance, expert advisory, mentoring, and review leadership for major SLAC projects preparing for project reviews as well as supporting the SLAC's project assurance function.
The Senior Project Advisor will serve as a committee member within the SLAC project assurance group, working closely with project managers, project directors, and external committees to assess and report on project health and provide actionable recommendations. This work directly supports SLAC's mission by ensuring that capital asset projects meet DOE Order 413.3B requirements and are positioned for successful execution.
The successful candidate will be an experienced project leader with deep knowledge of DOE capital project management practices, exceptional facilitation skills, and the ability to participate in complex, multidisciplinary project teams through rigorous project assessments.
**Note** : This is a non-benefits eligible casual-nonexempt position (work less than 50% full-time equivalent), not to exceed 980 hours in a calendar year.
SLAC is a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) laboratory operated by Stanford University and based in Menlo Park; CA.
Your specific responsibilities include:
+ Serve as a committee member within the labs project assurance function, assessing project health and readiness for review and execution.
+ Lead or contribute to the preparation of monthly assurance reports, integrating project data and supporting analysis.
+ Provide senior-level advisory support to project managers and project directors to strengthen project readiness, technical scope, cost, schedule, and risk management prior to formal reviews.
+ Review project documentation, execution plans, and other key materials to identify gaps and recommend corrective actions.
+ Mentor project leadership teams to ensure alignment with DOE O 413.3B requirements and SLAC assurance processes.
+ Engage collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders including SLAC leadership, DOE Site Office representatives, assurance committee members, and project staff.
To be successful in this position you will bring:
+ Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, physical sciences, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
+ At least 10 years of relevant experience in DOE capital project management, including significant experience with DOE O 413.3B requirements and various project reviews.
+ Demonstrated leadership in conducting complex project reviews, preparing formal review reports, and facilitating consensus across diverse stakeholder groups.
+ Strong technical knowledge of project planning, cost estimating, scheduling, risk management, and performance management for large capital projects.
+ Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical and programmatic information to varied audiences.
+ Proven ability to mentor and advise senior project personnel.
+ Experience working in matrix organizations and balancing multiple high-priority assignments under tight deadlines.
Preferred qualifications include:
+ Experience on DOE project review and project assurance committees.
+ Familiarity with specialized research laboratories, accelerator facilities, or other highly technical scientific infrastructure.
+ Direct experience developing, reviewing, or approving DOE Critical Decision (CD) packages.

The expected pay range for this position is $55.79 - $94.70 per hour. SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory/Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
