Job Description
The Lab Analyst is responsible for performing testing and analytical functions in support of a nuclear fuel production facility. This includes reagent preparation, sample analyses, instrument calibration and troubleshooting, result calculations, data management, and operation of laboratory instrumentation. The role involves analysis of uranium and other materials used in fuel production.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Certify for assigned job functions and routinely perform analyses in areas such as:
Mass Spectrometric Analyses (ICPMS)
Wet Chemistry Analyses (titrimetric, gravimetric, colorimetric, chromatographic methods)
Environmental Analyses (compliance with safety and environmental standards)
Metallurgical Analyses (material properties, corrosion testing, microscopy)
Perform routine laboratory duties in radioactive material-controlled areas and pass a Nuclear Safety Training Test
Work safely with acids, bases, solvents, radioactive and hazardous materials using appropriate PPE
Apply precision laboratory techniques (pipetting, titrating, analytical weighing, quantitative transfers, volumetric dilutions)
Operate Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and instrument control computers for data collection, analysis, storage, and retrieval
Monitor lab equipment performance, respond to alarms, carry out preventative maintenance, and perform simple repairs
Perform mathematical unit conversions and interpret complex instruction manuals, engineering drawings, and software programs
Prepare reagents and working standards, ensuring proper storage of reference materials

Skills and Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a physical science from an accredited institution
3+ years of overall experience in a lab environment
At least 1 year of demonstrated experience in one or more of the following (must be out of school exp):
Inductively coupled plasma (ICP) spectrometry
Ion chromatography
Liquid or gas chromatography
Metallurgical analyses
Strong knowledge of standard analytical laboratory methodologies (titrimetric, gravimetry, spectrophotometry, etc.)
Experience using computer-based Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS)
Ability to pass a quality control vision (Ishihara) test
Clear understanding of industrial and nuclear safety guidelines and practices.
