SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKERQUALIFICATIONS: NYSED Certification: School Social WorkerEDUCATION: Master's Degree in Social Work from an accredited institution.EXPERIENCE: Two years direct experience in the field preferred.SALARY: As per negotiated agreement.WORK YEAR/DAY: Normal school year/plus summer days as required.RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Individual and Group Counseling:• Provide individual and group counseling services/push in lessons to students experiencing social, emotional, or behavioral challenges. • Develop and implement intervention strategies to address issues such as bullying, peer conflicts, and family concerns.2. Assessment and Evaluation:• Conduct assessments to identify the social and emotional needs of students. • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other professionals to gather information and develop comprehensive assessments. • Participate in the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process, contributing social work expertise to the development of appropriate goals and interventions. • Attend and participate in CSE meetings to ensure the needs of students are addressed effectively.3. Crisis Intervention:• Respond promptly to crisis situations, providing emotional support and implementing crisis intervention strategies when necessary. • Collaborate with school administrators and community resources to address urgent student needs.4. Parent/Guardian Involvement:• Conduct home visits to gain a comprehensive understanding of students' home environments and family dynamics. • Collaborate with parents and guardians to develop strategies that support the student's success both at home and in the school environment.5. Collaboration with School Staff and Outside Agencies:• Work closely with teachers, administrators, and other school personnel to create a supportive and inclusive school environment. • Actively makes connections and collaborates with outside agencies and other mental health providers. • Provide training and consultation to staff on social-emotional issues impacting students.6. Documentation and Reporting:• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student interactions and interventions. • Prepare reports and documentation as required by the school district.7. Professional Development:• Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay current with trends, teaching, methodologies, and advancements. This includes attending workshops, seminars, and professional meetings such as faculty and department/grade level meetings. • Collaborate with fellow teachers and staff to share best practices and enhance the overall learning experience for students.8. Other:• Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal, Assistant Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent. • The above description is illustrative of tasks and responsibilities.
