    This position exists to serve as a focal point for Metro Districts’ modal transportation planning efforts to provide bicycle and pedestrian facilities, ADA accommodations (including compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act), freight considerations on the Trunk Highway system; to serve as a technical resource on meeting modal planning needs; and to participate in related intra-and interagency coordination. This position provides critical interdisciplinary resource to the planning, programming, and preliminary design of trunk highway projects that advance state and regional multimodal transportation goals and priorities. Work includes technical assistance supporting the development and review of project development processes including studies, scoping documents, preliminary design, and environmental documentation; and assisting in the development of regional, district, and corridor plans for bicycle, pedestrian, ADA, and freight investment.

     

    This position is located at district headquarters in Roseville and has the flexibility to work in the office or a hybrid schedule that includes in office and teleworking time. If working a hybrid schedule, the incumbent will be required to make a telework arrangement with their supervisor. The incumbent will be expected to work in the office as determined by policy and discussion with their supervisor.

     

    The Minnesota Department of Transportation does not sponsor applicants for work visas or Optional Practical Training Extensions for STEM Students. Individuals must be legally authorized to work in the US at the start of employment.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Three (3) years of professional level transportation planning experience (e.g., Planner-MAPE 5L or higher). Transportation planning experience must include:

     

    + Knowledge of transportation planning focused on bicycle and pedestrian facility planning.

    + Knowledge of transportation planning principles and practices.

    + **Experience participating in or coordinating planning studies and/or planning processes.**

    Education:

    A bachelor’s or master’s degree in planning, geography, urban studies, sociology, political science substitutes for one (1) year of experience.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Knowledge of and experience working within statewide, District-level, modal office, and regional (MPO) planning frameworks.

    + Knowledge of and experience working with state and local agencies, governmental and professional associations, business interests, advocates, and others involved in transportation, land use, environment, and economic development planning and regulation.

    + Knowledge of/experience with environmental review, preparation of design concepts, project scoping, review of geometric layouts and construction plans.

    + Knowledge of MnDOT plans, policies, practices, and procedures, including design standards, guidance, and design flexibility; knowledge of national norms and best practices for development and implementation of bicycle and pedestrian facilities, and ADA compliance; knowledge of related federal and state transportation law and regulations.
