    Insurance Follow-Up Representative II

    The Insurance Follow-Up Representative II is responsible for managing patient (medical) accounts receivable to minimize outstanding balances and reduce bad debt. This role serves as a key liaison between Novant Health and insurance payers, ensuring timely and accurate resolution of unpaid or denied medical claims in accordance with organizational policies and procedures.

    Key Responsibilities:

    + Monitor and manage patient accounts to ensure timely reimbursement and minimize aging accounts receivable.

    + Communicate effectively with insurance payers to resolve outstanding balances and discrepancies.

    + Stay up to date on payer-specific requirements, including timely filing limits, appeal processes, and refund policies.

    + Apply strong understanding of acknowledgements, recoupments, takebacks, PLB segments, and offsets to resolve claim issues.

    + Work accounts across multiple work queues (including Cancer, Psychiatry, and Neurosciences), analyze denial trends, complete appeals, and address takebacks.

    + Identify and report preventable denials or recurring issues, recommending process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

    + Collaborate with the Compliance Department to resolve complex or escalated account issues.

    + Partner with colleagues across departments to streamline workflows and improve follow-up processes.

    + Handle insurance-related correspondence, including reviewing and processing denials for assigned work queues.

    Core Competencies:

    + In-depth knowledge of medical insurance billing, follow-up, and denial management processes

    + Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

    + Excellent communication and teamwork abilities

    + Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation

     

    What We're Looking For

     

    + Education: High School Diploma or GED, required.

    + Experience: Minimum one year of related work experience, required.

    + Additional Skills (required): Good verbal and written communication skills. Experience operating computers/laptop. Clear and pleasant speaking voice on the telephone, hearing acuity that allows for understanding over the telephone, prolonged sitting, visual abilities and manual dexterity that allows the use of PCs for extended periods of time. Ability to operate 10 key keyboard. Ability to drive/travel to multiple locations/facilities as needed. Ability to work from home as needed.

    + Additional Skills (preferred): Basic accounting and medical terminology.
