Job Description:
The Chief Nursing Officer – Nevada Children’s Hospital is accountable for providing leadership and implementing strategic direction to Nursing Services throughout the facility. This position will work in partnership with system and facility leadership to ensure the provision of optimal patient care, attainment of financial goals, and development of leaders. This position has site accountability for nursing for a designated facility. Typical Distribution of Job Duties: 20% Tactical, 40% Operational, 40% Strategic. Definitions: Tactical - Duties include ensuring appropriate staffing, availability of equipment, and employee relations (day-to-day activities). Operational - Duties include budget management, budget development, supply acquisition, process improvement, and employee performance evaluations. Strategic - Duties include developing goals to meet the Intermountain/Regional Strategic Plan and holding employees accountable to goals.
Essential Functions
+ Leadership: Accountable for the environment in which clinical nursing is practiced. Envisions and strategizes the strategic planning process, for over-all operations, standards of care and attainment of organizational goals. Accountable for effective collaborative problem solving among hospital disciplines. Allocates available resources to promote efficient, effective, safe and compassionate nursing care based on current standards of practice. Supports shared decision-making through the provision of a professional atmosphere and promotion of effective communication into executive-level decisions, and by keeping directors and interdisciplinary colleagues informed of executive level activities. Accountable for the implementation of the vision, mission, core values of the Nursing Philosophy of CARING and Intermountain Healthcare's Healing Commitments.
+ Operational Effectiveness: In collaboration with CNO, department directors and budget director, establishes and approves capital and operating budgets to ensure sound financial management of nursing units for the facility. Provide support and education to department directors/managers in meeting financial goals via use of monthly variance reports, benchmarking opportunities and cost containment strategies. Shares responsibility with the Directors for meeting financial goals of nursing units.
+ Employee Engagement: Ensures that a professional development program is in place that addresses the needs of clinical management and staff. Creates and sustains an environment that supports and promotes the talents of individuals and high-functioning teams. Holds nursing leadership accountable for meeting recruitment, retention, and employee engagement goals. Acts as a role model through the demonstration of personal professional development, continuous learning and competency improvement. Participates in and contributes to educational offerings and visibility in professional organizations.
+ Clinical Excellence: Strategize and develop programs to ensure delivery of high quality safe patient care. Assures unit and facility objectives are aligned with system goals. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team and physician leaders in the evaluation and oversight of clinical practice. Keeps abreast of and responds proactively to changes or trends in healthcare and technology specific to clinical practice. Participating in a professional nursing organization appropriate to position and service line. Facilitates and encourages staff nurse participation in professional organizations. Provides for resources in the facility to support nursing practice monitoring outcomes resulting from use of resources. Partners with School of Nursing faculty to enhance professional nursing practice.
+ Patient Engagement: Strategizes and develops processes and programs that support the achievement of patient satisfaction and service quality goals. Creates an environment of excellent customer service/satisfaction. Acts as a leader/mentor for staff in Healing Connections. Collaborates with regional nursing programs in facility participation with ongoing nursing research activities.
+ Physician Engagement: Partner with medical staff leadership at the facility level to set and achieve clinical, operational, and service goals. Community Stewardship: Lead and participate in community outreach activities. Develop and sustain relationships with academic partners to assure a consistent pipeline of qualified graduates for the facility. Supports staff participation in outside community organizations such as volunteer health clinics, health fairs and advisory boards for not-for-profit organizations. Participates in community organizations in local area.

Minimum Qualifications
+ Master’s degree from an accredited university required. Either the bachelor’s or master’s degree must be in Nursing. Degree will be verified.
+ RN License required. - and - Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers may be required depending on facility call protocol.
+ Five years of progressive management experience
Preferred Qualifications
+ Demonstrated experience in a CNO position in a pediatric hospital
+ Experience in achieving Magnet designation
With this position, you are eligible to participate in the Annual Pay for Performance (AP4P) Plan. This plan enables Intermountain Health to provide leaders with an additional performance compensation opportunity. The AP4P award opportunities are calculated as a percentage of your base salary. Awards are paid out based on attainment of selected Board-approved goals.

+ For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.
+ Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, documents, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs.
+ Frequent interactions with providers, colleagues, customers, patients/clients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.
+ Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use for typing, accessing needed information, etc.
+ May have the same physical requirements as those of clinical or patient care jobs, when the leader takes clinical shifts.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.
$7.25 - $999.99
