    Job Description

    *This vacancy is only open to 1) current permanent Parks employees serving in the Assistant Mechanical Engineer civil service title or 2) on leave from the title or 3) Parks employees who are reachable on the Assistant Mechanical Engineer civil service list Exam No. 3109.     The Mechanical Inspector is a member of the Sustainable Facilities Team within the Division of Citywide Services. The team works to improve operations by inspecting mechanical systems to maximize performance and reduce energy costs.

    Major Responsibilities

    - Under supervision, perform mechanical engineering work of moderate difficulty and responsibility.

     

    - Engage in research, investigations, studies, and examinations related to the engineering functions or activities of NYC Parks, including the operation, maintenance, repair, and alteration of public works.

     

    - Inspect operating conditions of low-pressure boilers and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Check for normal system operation, such as the stack temperature of flue gases, system pressure and temperature, and any abnormal noises or leaks coming from the equipment.

     

    - Conduct equipment inventory of buildings by observing, checking, certifying and documenting the installation of materials and equipment. Verify equipment performance and test results of materials.

     

    - Represent the division at on-site meetings regarding substantial completion of HVAC work, final inspection walkthroughs and HVAC balancing.

     

    - Prepare and submit reports on field findings.

     

    - Create work orders in the Asset Management Planning System (AMPS) as requested.

     

    - Develop and maintain databases. Trouble-shoot and resolve database issues in a timely manner.

     

    - Perform other work as assigned, including but not limited to, estimating, energy auditing, conducting lighting surveys, etc.

     

    - Work in mechanical spaces and on rooftops.

    ASSISTANT MECHANICAL ENGINEER - 20410

    Qualifications

    1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or mechatronics and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in mechanical engineering work; or

    2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in mechanical engineering technology and three years of full-time satisfactory experience in mechanical engineering work; or

    3. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and a master's degree from an accredited college in mechanical engineering or mechatronics.
