RESPONSIBILITIES:

+ Optimize the Company’s short-term physical and financial electric resource portfolio to support cost-effective and reliable operations.

+ Collaborate with Generation and System Operations teams to strategically position generating unit offers with MISO, ensuring optimal energy, regulation, and reserve mix.

+ Independently negotiate bilateral energy transactions, including pricing and delivery terms, aligned with corporate strategies and risk management protocols.

+ Collaborate across internal teams and external stakeholders including market participants, regulatory agencies, and transmission operators to ensure least-cost, reliable energy supply through market offers, bilateral transactions, and continuous monitoring of market and system conditions, while maintaining compliance with regulatory and risk frameworks.

+ Continuously monitor market dynamics, system conditions, and Minnesota Power’s energy position to inform timely and effective resource decisions.

+ Manage generation requirements and coordinate fuel procurement needs to meet obligations.

+ Develop and implement trading strategies to optimize market participation, capture value from price signals, and ensure reliable energy supply for customer load across ISO/RTO markets.

+ Adhere to environmental regulation, appropriate market behavior conduct, reliability requirements and other regulatory rules and regulations (NERC, FERC, MAPP, MPCA, MISO and MPUC).

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

+ Bachelor's Degree required.

+ Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Economics, Engineering, Finance, or related field preferred.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

+ Four years or more related experience required.

+ Related experience should include experience with MISO, or applicable Energy Market.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

+ This position may be considered for a hybrid work arrangement based on ALLETE’s needs. A Hybrid work arrangement means the employee's position will be a blend of work performed both in-person and at an offsite location such as an employee's home office. This position will report to Duluth, MN.

+ Traders must be able to work a shift schedule as part of a 24-hour, 7-days a week operation. Shifts consist of 12-hour rotations, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

+ Candidates must be self-motivated, capable of working in a high-energy, fast-paced team environment, and possess good organizational skills, communication skills, and interpersonal skills.

+ This position may be subject to assessment of skills, job match and/or aptitude.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

+ The expected annual compensation range for this position is $80,000 - $100,000. Compensation offered to the selected candidate will vary depending on relevant knowledge, skills, training, experience, and market conditions.
