Fleet Equipment Manager
Position Overview
The Fleet Manager plays a vital role in supporting Moss Utilities operations by overseeing all aspects of equipment movement, availability and readiness. This role ensures company owned and rented equipment, aggregates and haul off needs are met daily. The Fleet Manager is responsible for the performance and supervision of the Dispatcher, company CDL drivers and third party haulers with a strong emphasis on equipment planning, utilization and maintenance coordination.
Responsibilities
+ Oversee and manage all fleet and equipment operations to support daily field needs.
+ Ensure company equipment, trucks and trailers are available, properly assigned and in good working condition.
+ Develop and implement equipment management strategies that improve utilization, reduce downtime and support cost effective operations.
+ Plan and coordinate the movement, mobilization and demobilization of heavy equipment and aggregates across projects.
+ Maintain strong communication with Operations leadership to stay aligned on project schedules, equipment needs and haul priorities.
+ Work closely with the Service Manager to schedule and track equipment and truck repairs, preventive maintenance and inspections.
+ Monitor equipment performance, utilization, idle time and overall fleet health. Provide regular reports and recommendations to senior leadership.
+ Ensure compliance with all DOT regulations, oversize and overweight permit requirements, axle capacities and vehicle rating guidelines.
+ Manage relationships with equipment vendors, dealerships, rental providers and trucking partners.
+ Provide recommendations to the Chief Operating Officer for new truck, trailer or equipment purchases that support growth and operational efficiency.
+ Support the lifecycle management of fleet assets including acquisition, tracking, maintenance planning and end of life disposition.
+ Lead and manage daily performance of the Dispatcher and all fleet drivers including annual performance reviews and coaching.
+ Maintain accurate records for equipment assignments, inspections, maintenance logs and regulatory compliance.
+ Work in alignment with all company safety policies and procedures and promote safe work practices across the fleet team.
+ Perform additional duties as needed to support business operations.
Qualifications
+ Experience in heavy equipment hauling, equipment fleet management or logistics required.
+ Experience in underground utilities, civil construction or site work preferred.
+ Strong communication skills both written and verbal.
+ Ability to prioritize effectively while managing multiple moving parts in fast paced environments.
+ Strong analytical and problem solving abilities especially under pressure.
+ Professional, team oriented and able to work collaboratively with field and office leadership.
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
+ High school diploma or GED required.
