Position Summary:
The Department of Visual Arts & Art History invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor and coordinator of Foundations position beginning August 2026. The successful candidate will teach in Studio Art Foundations, serve the program as Foundations coordinator, contribute to other areas of the undergraduate and graduate programs, and perform creative research. They will also direct the Studio Foundations program, mentor graduate teaching assistants and contingent faculty, perform service to the department and university, and maintain a successful creative/research record. In recognition of the significant administrative and service responsibilities, this position carries a 2/2 teaching load.

Summary of Responsibilities:
Leadership and Administration:
+ Oversight of the studio foundations courses, programs, curriculum, and facilities in collaboration with contributing faculty.
+ Leadership of individual and programmatic assessment, including BA/BFA portfolio review.
+ Contributions to scheduling, including course scheduling and staffing, as well as co-curricular initiatives.
+ Management of studio foundations budget and shared resources.
+ Collaboration with colleagues who contribute to the studio foundations programs.
Teaching and Mentorship:
+ Teaching a 2/2 course load.
+ Advising and mentorship of foundations-level undergraduates, graduate teaching assistants, and adjunct instructors.
+ Academic advising and related activities.
Research/Creative practice:
+ Active engagement and demonstrated achievement in creative and/or research practice.
Service:
+ Participation in faculty governance and service to the department, college, university, and profession.
+ Representation of the department, college, or university on university and/or Statewide committees.
Minimum Qualifications:
- MFA in a studio arts discipline that intersects with studio arts foundations and supports the department’s MFA in Visual Arts program.
- Three years of full-time university-level teaching experience beyond the graduate teaching assistantship.
- Experience in studio foundations administration (as foundations coordinator, head, and/or director).
- Experience mentoring and supervising graduate teaching assistants preparing to become instructors of record in the foundations.
- Strong studio management skills.
- Experience with budget management.
- Experience contributing to course offerings beyond the studio foundations.
- Evidence of active research/creative practice.
- Strong organizational, collaborative, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- MFA in a studio art discipline already represented within the Department of Visual Arts & Art History’s undergraduate programs, with the potential to contribute to existing undergraduate programs and research initiatives.
- Experience working with upper-division undergraduates and MFA candidates.
- Experience with curriculum development.
- Experience with student recruitment.
- Experience managing relationships with state/community colleges.
- Experience with individual assessment (portfolio review).
- Familiarity with curriculum assessment and program development.

Transcripts:
The selected candidate for this position is required to submit an official transcript sent directly from the institution for the Provost’s credential file prior to the first day of employment. Similarly, for degrees from outside the United States, the evaluation by an organization belonging to the National Association of Credential Evaluation (NACES), with an indication of the documents the evaluation was prepared from (official transcripts, diplomas, dissertation abstracts) is required for the Provost’s credential file prior to the first day of employment.
