About the Indiana Management Performance Hub (MPH):
The Management Performance Hub provides analytics solutions tailored to address complex management and policy questions facing state government. We partner with state agencies to use data in innovative ways, facilitating data-driven decision making and data-informed policymaking.
Role Overview:
The MPH Business Intelligence (BI) Developer creates engaging visualizations to succinctly display accurate, meaningful information that empowers state agencies and other partners to better serve their populations and the Hoosier community.
Salary:
This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $70,122 but may be commensurate with education and job experience.

A Day in the Life:
Responsibilities include:
+ Coordinates with key business stakeholders to understand their analytical and operational challenges.
+ Designs, develops, and formats polished data visualizations (reports and dashboards) to support generated user stories from stakeholders.
+ Prioritizes requirements and create prototypes for end users.
+ Works closely with end users to gather requirements and translate them into effective/meaningful visual reporting tools.
+ Determines the structure, content, and quality of the data through examination of source systems and data samples.
+ Conducts data quality checks, as needed, to ensure the validity and cleanliness of agency datasets prior to their use in analysis and reporting.
+ Publishes workbooks to appropriate QA, production, and public servers.
+ Provides maintenance and support for production products.
+ Documents and communicates technical specifications to ensure that proper and optimized techniques, queries, and final deliverables are understood and incorporated into data and analytics processes.
+ Supports a portfolio of data domains to identify and implement continuous ideas for visualizing data for self-service analytics.
+ Uses source code repositories for source code version control.
+ Presents data in a fashion that is easy to understand with proper documentation and user testing for successful adoption.
+ Provides end user education for interpretation of business data.
+ Tests and evaluates upgrades to existing software.
+ Collaborates with other BI professionals and data engineers around data/table structures to optimize dashboards and other self-service needs.
+ Looks for opportunities to improve current processes or find efficiencies by applying industry best practices.
+ Maintains a high degree of customer satisfaction through the implementation, investigation, analysis, training, and relationship building efforts.

This position is exempt from overtime compensation for additional work hours which may be required to complete essential functions or other assigned work. Exempt employees may work more than 75 hours in a pay period without additional compensation and must report a minimum of 75 hours per pay period of work hours and/or paid leave taken to receive their base biweekly salary.
What You'll Need for Success:
Credentials:
+ Bachelor’s Degree with 2+ years of experience, or
+ 5+ years of experience applying the below, outlined knowledge, skills, and abilities in a similar role.
+ Related certifications and coursework may be considered for education or experience.
Additional qualifications:
+ Experience manipulating very large datasets.
+ Experience in working with one or more BI platforms (ex: Tableau, Power BI).
+ Strong understanding of relational and dimensional databases and data warehousing structures, theories, principles, and practices.
+ Experience with geocoding and map visualizations.
+ Experience generating public-facing visualizations.
+ Experience in optimizing visualizations for web and mobile device platforms.
+ Effective communicator and problem solver.
+ Exceptional analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities.
+ Visual and artistic creative skills.
+ Strong written/oral communication and presentation/interpersonal skills.
+ Advanced SQL coding and troubleshooting skills.
+ Experience with data modeling, database design, and query performance tuning and optimization.
+ Experience with database development and data manipulation using PL/SQL and T-SQL.
+ Strong understanding of relational and dimensional databases.
+ Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
