Who we’re looking for
Toyota’s Regulatory Affairs & Environmental Sustainability Division is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Principal Engineer – Material Policy and Compliance.
The primary responsibility of this role is to lead and coordinate material data collection for all parts and vehicle projects produced by TMNA and to develop and lead the execution of tactical action plans to remove soon-to-be-regulated chemicals from TMNA products.
Reporting to the Senior Manager of Implementation, the person in this role will support the Chemical & Materials Stewardship (CMS) department's objective to provide regulatory expertise and coordinated enterprise compliance validation and reporting for TMNA’s chemicals and materials in TMNA’s products.
What you’ll be doing
Implementation and coordination of Toyota’s regulatory obligations related to the material content of vehicles, parts and other TMNA products:
+ Lead TMNA in the development and communication of policies for chemicals and materials in products that TMNA places on the market (core and new product types).
+ Lead and manage CMS’ impact assessment process with the goal of ensuring adequate time and resources for policy and implementation of all new and changing chemical and materials regulations.
+ Authority in NA for final approval of newly reported substances of concern, including enhanced review of chemical composition to ensure no compliance risk to product development from improperly reported chemical content.
+ Author, manage, maintain, and test CMS-related compliance program documents such as rules, operating procedures, templates, and work instructions in accordance with changing and new regulations for articles placed on the market by TMNA.
+ Lead representative from Toyota in external associations related to job responsibilities as defined above. (GASG, AIAG, USCAR, etc.)
+ Lead project teams to update and standardize data collection systems.
+ Product owner for software related to responsibilities above. (iPCA, Avenger, GCATS, etc.)
+ Train and support senior engineers and consultants that conduct material data collection from the supply chain.
What you bring
+ Bachelor's degree in related engineering discipline or related field
+ Minimum 10 years’ related experience
+ Previous knowledge and experience in related engineering fields and processes, and in chemical and materials management
+ Strong communication, capability to influence others, relationship building, negotiation and perseverance
+ Strong, demonstrated, project management capabilities for highly complex, multi-year projects across diverse enterprise functions
+ Ability to adhere to milestones and timely complete compliance and certification activities and reports.
+ Strong understanding of NA regulations (TSCA, CEPA, etc.) to ensure proper chemical approval
+ Full capability in MS Office suite, esp. including key project management tools, and interest in pursuing further IT tools to enhance the work. (Works a lot with IT to develop tools)
+ Ability to represent the Chemical and Materials Stewardship Department to broad, high-level stakeholders across the enterprise, and to advocate for these colleagues to complete their related tasks timely and with high quality
Added bonus if you have
+ Certifications or experience working with IMDS at an automotive supplier or OEM
+ 6+ years of materials development and/or quality engineering experience
+ Experience with Power BI
+ Master’s degree in business administration, engineering or related field.
+ Strong understanding of NA and global chemical regulations (ELV, TSCA, CEPA, REACH, etc.)
+ Bi-lingual skills (Japanese, Spanish or Portuguese)
