That's why the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is creating Clinical Deployment Teams (CDTs) to stand ready to assist. We're looking for clinical personnel to serve on these teams and help transform how we provide health care services in times of great need. Responsibilities The registered nurse practitioner provides care and counseling of persons or in the promotion and maintenance of health of women Veterans and prevention of illness and injury based upon the nursing process which includes systematic data gathering, assessment, appropriate nursing judgment, and evaluation of human responses to actual or potential health problems through such services as case finding, health teaching, health counseling; provision of care supportive to or restorative of life and well-being; and executing medical regimens including administering medications and treatments prescribed by a licensed or otherwise legally authorized provider. (Virginia Board of Nursing) The nurse practitioner's primary commitment is to the patient, whether an individual, family, group, or community. (ANA Code of Ethics for Nurse practitioners) The NP Deputy WVPM is responsible for administering, planning, monitoring, and evaluating access and quality of women's healthcare at the CVHCS facility and the Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC). The purpose of the Deputy WVPM is to augment the Women Veterans Program to ensure outreach, inclusion, and the delivery of comprehensive health care for women Veterans throughout the CVHCS healthcare system. The Deputy WVPM functions under the VHA Directives 1330.01 and 1330.02 and supports full implementation of VHA women's health initiatives at each CBOC under the guidance of the facility lead WVPM. In absence of the facility WVPM, the Deputy WVPM serves as a delegate to provide programmatic coverage and supervision. The incumbent provides oversight and care coordination for abnormal, gender-specific cancer screenings as an essential function of comprehensive healthcare needs of women Veterans. The Deputy WVPM will coordinate a variety of activities including outreach, multidisciplinary activities, consultation and/or education to medical center staff and community service providers. The NP is responsible for developing a designated liaison for each CBOC and holding quarterly meetings for surveillance and training purposes. The incumbent will also be responsible for the collection and maintenance of statistical data, program planning, evaluation, and modification. The Deputy WVPM is a full-time administrative position without collateral assignment with a maximum allotment of clinical time (two-eighths full time equivalent (FTE) employee) to maintain licensure. Nurse Practitioners are clinicians with advanced training who provide primary, acute, and specialty health care services and delivers care under a set of privileges, based upon education, training, and certification. Responsibilities include: Women's Health - Provides comprehensive acute and chronic continuous Gynecology care, evaluation and treatment of minor illness and injury as well as appropriate treatment and intervention for chronic gynecology illnesses. Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP). Must be able to meet physical demands which include strenuous physical activity to include carrying persons and equipment, walking long distances over difficult terrain, running, climbing, working long hours in primitive or arduous conditions, long periods of standing, and bending and stooping. Qualifications Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner) Basic Requirements Education: A post-master's certificate or master's or doctoral degree as a Nurse Practitioner. (Applicants pending the completion of educational requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until the education requirements are met.) Must be a graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). NOTE: Foreign Education. Graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing programs, the nurse practitioner degree equivalency must be validated through an Agency recognized degree equivalency evaluation agency, such as the International Consultants of Delaware (ICD). Candidates with equivalent nurse practitioner masters or doctorate level degrees who possess current, full, active, and unrestricted registration and certification will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing to warrant appointment. License and Certification: License. All APN (NPs) must possess and maintain an active, current, full, and unrestricted APN license to practice as an NP in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Basic Certification. All APN (NPs) must maintain full and current board certification in an area of clinical specialty from one of the following: the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB), or other nationally recognized certifying body in the area in which the Nurse Practitioner is academically prepared. NOTE: Grandfathering Provision - All persons currently employed in VHA in 0610 series and an APN (NP) assignment that are also performing the duties as described in the qualification standard on the effective date of the standard (1/29/2024) are considered to have met all qualification requirements for the grade held including positive education and licensure/certification. Physical Requirements: See VA Directive and Handbook 5019. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, and sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing, reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, both hands, both legs and repeated bending while wearing protective lead. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders; Emotional and Mental Stability: The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs. Must complete annual Employee Health requirements, such as annual TB screening or testing, as a condition of employment. Work Environment: Work is performed primarily in a patient care setting; adequately lighted, temperature controlled, and ventilated. Office temperatures fluctuate periodically; involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as clinics, offices, meeting and training rooms or libraries; exposure to noise and dust on occasion. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations or operative/invasive procedures.
