**Make an impact where innovation meets patient care.** As a Senior Staff Engineer, R&D Packaging for Stryker Sage, you’ll lead packaging design and development for a diverse portfolio of high volume consumable medical products, including devices and formulations. You will need to live within commuting distance of our Cary, Illinois office. This is a hybrid role, with on-site work required Monday through Wednesday and the flexibility to work remotely the remainder of the week.
What You Will Do
+ Design and develop packaging and labeling solutions from concept through commercialization for medical devices, drugs, and combination products.
+ Lead packaging projects to implement changes across the product portfolio, driving cost optimization, quality improvements, and scalability.
+ Ensure compliance with regulatory and industry standards through robust verification and validation processes.
+ Develop and refine packaging components that meet usability, sustainability, and manufacturing requirements.
+ Support existing products by resolving packaging-related issues, including cost reductions and supply chain resiliency.
+ Collaborate cross-functionally with R&D, quality, manufacturing, regulatory, and supply chain teams to deliver high-quality results.
+ Mentor and guide team members on packaging best practices, design requirements, and testing strategies.
+ Contribute to continuous improvement by assessing current processes and integrating customer insights into packaging innovations.
What You Will Need
Required Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree in Packaging, Mechanical, Industrial, Materials Engineering, or related field.
+ Minimum 6 years of engineering experience with a focus on packaging design and development.
+ Familiarity with developing packaging systems compliant with ISO, ASTM, ISTA, or USP standards.
+ Experience with packaging verification and validation, including sealing, distribution, and shelf-life studies.
+ Working knowledge of labeling development and basic statistical analysis tools.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering; advanced degree in a related field.
+ Experience in medical device, pharmaceutical, or combination product packaging.
+ Familiarity with sterile packaging systems and ISO 11607 requirements.
+ Knowledge of FDA regulations (21 CFR 820/211) and Design Control principles.
+ Experience with primary and secondary packaging for high-volume goods.
+ Proficiency with statistical tools such as Minitab.
**$110,600 - $182,200** salary plus bonus eligible + benefits. Individual pay is based on skills, experience, and other relevant factors.
