Description
The Department of Neurology is seeking a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join the Outpatient Sleep Neurology Program. The NP/PA will provide comprehensive evaluation and management of patients with sleep disorders in collaboration with attending physicians and the multidisciplinary sleep team.
The provider will deliver high-quality, patient-centered care in the outpatient setting, supporting both initial consultations and longitudinal management of patients with conditions such as obstructive sleep apnea, insomnia, restless leg syndrome, narcolepsy, hypersomnia, circadian rhythm disorders, and other related sleep conditions.
Responsibilities:
+ Participate as a core member of the multidisciplinary sleep team to ensure continuity and coordination of care.
+ Conduct independent outpatient visits, including new and follow-up appointments, to evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients with sleep disorders under established collaborative practice protocols.
+ Perform detailed histories and physical examinations, with emphasis on sleep-related symptoms, comorbidities, and contributing factors.
+ Order and integrate results from sleep studies (polysomnography and home sleep apnea testing) and other diagnostic tests to formulate treatment plans.
+ Initiate and adjust therapies such as positive airway pressure (PAP) devices, behavioral interventions, and pharmacologic management in collaboration with supervising physicians.
+ Provide education, counseling, and follow-up support for adherence to PAP therapy and sleep hygiene recommendations.
+ Coordinate care with referring providers and other subspecialties as needed.
+ Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
+ Participate in the quality improvement and clinical outcomes initiatives of the Sleep Neurology Program.
+ Support community outreach and patient education initiatives on sleep health and wellness.
+ Engage in continuing education and professional development to maintain current knowledge in sleep medicine.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
+ **_Nurse Practitioner:_** Master’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Nursing. Licensed as a Nurse Practitioner in New York State. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
+ **_Physician Assistant:_** Bachelor’s degree (foreign equivalent or higher) from an accredited PA program. Current license and certification to practice as a PA in New York State. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience treating and managing patients with neurological disorders. Experience working in a fast paced, high volume outpatient environment. Experience using EMR.
Please note: Candidates new to sleep medicine will receive full orientation and structured on-the-job training under the supervision of sleep specialists.
