    **Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD)** has an immediate opening for a **Journey or Senior Line Technician - Distribution** located at **York Operations Center** in **York** , Nebraska. Position closes November 28, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. Central Time.

     

    This position will report to the York Distribution Supervisor.

    Position Summary

    Journey Line Technician

     

    Perform construction, maintenance, and operation of District electrical systems, including transmission, subtransmission, and distribution lines; substations; and equipment in a safe and efficient manner. Take assigned after-hours standby duty on a regular basis. Ascend and descend wood poles and steel towers of any height regularly to perform work, as required, in a safe and productive manner without close supervision. Provide storm support as requested both in and out of state.

     

    Safely construct and maintain transmission, subtransmission, and distribution lines and facilities while providing the technical leadership in areas of responsibility.

    Senior Line Technician

    The incumbent serves as a technical leader, assisting the Superintendent/Supervisor in the supervision of the Distribution Line Crew activities. This includes: training Line Technicians, planning, organizing, directing, and controlling activities to operate, construct, and maintain the distribution lines and substations to ensure effective operation of NPPD Distribution and Sub-Transmission System in a safe and efficient manner, as well as complete Journey Line Technician duties.

     

    This position must make sound and logical, on-the-spot decisions while responding to emergency situations such as storm damage and equipment failures, on short notice.

     

    Education, Training and Experience

     

    Must be a graduate (certificate, diploma, or associate's degree) of an accredited line technician school **OR** achieve a certificate from a District-approved program **OR** have documented line technician experience with another utility or electrical contractor that is considered an acceptable equivalent to the formal education options listed.

     

    Journey Line Technician

     

    Four years of combined experience at the Apprentice and Line Technician levels is the normal minimum experience requirement (as outlined in the NPPD Line Technician Progression Program) for progression to this position.

     

    Senior Line Technician

     

    Must have achieved the Journey Line Technician status or equivalent based on NPPD's Line Technician Progression Program.

     

    Two years of experience as a Journey Line Technician is preferred.

     

    Licenses and/or Certifications

    Journey Line Technician

    Must maintain Red Cross Community cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid certifications and pole top and bucket truck rescue certifications. Class A commercial driver's license (CDL) required.

    Senior Line Technician

    Individual must obtain Switchman and Clearance Holder Certification within six months and maintain thereafter. Individual must also maintain Red Cross Community Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification, First Aid Certification, Pole Top and Bucket Truck Rescue Certification, and maintain a minimum Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) while meeting the mandatory DOT requirements.

     

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities

     

    Journey Line Technician

     

    -Construction, maintenance, and operation of lines, substations, and equipment. Ascend and descend wood poles and steel towers of any height regularly to perform work, as required, in a safe and productive manner with and without close supervision.

     

    -Operation and maintenance of District vehicles and hydraulic equipment.

     

    -Installation and maintenance of services, and installation and removal of meters.

     

    -Analyze and initiate corrective action on outages, and troubleshoot service-related problems.

     

    -Accurate and timely record keeping, such as, material, time, and equipment documents. Issue and return stores materials.

     

    -Perform energized line work. Journey Line Technician is required to work 69 kV and below.

     

    -Incumbent is expected to travel as assigned for work and to be available for duty per on-call schedules and storm support as determined by the Distribution Superintendent/Supervisor. This is part of the expected job function and associated compensation.

     

    -Trim trees out of distribution and subtransmission conductors. Service street and area lighting systems.

     

    Senior Line Technician

     

    -Assist in supervision of the construction, maintenance, and operation of lines, substations, and equipment. Take assigned after-hours standby duty on a regular basis. Analyze and initiate corrective actions on outages. Trouble shoot service related problems. Ascend and descend wood poles and steel towers of any height up to 100 plus feet regularly, while performing work as required in a safe and productive manner without close supervision. Under specific business need, may be required to climb towers and structures up to 300+ feet.

     

    -Perform hot line maintenance on distribution lines of substation voltages 12.5 kV to 34.5 kV using the hot stick or rubber glove method.

     

    -Operation and maintenance of District vehicles and hydraulic equipment.

     

    -Installation and maintenance of services. Installation and removal of meters.

     

    -Maintain favorable customer relations.

     

    -Accurate and timely record keeping such as material, time, and equipment documents. Familiarize self with Systems, Applications and Products in Data Processing (SAP) system to ensure that projects and work orders are completed within budget and on time.

    **Salary Information** _-_ Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. In addition to the base salary range listed below, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range. Successful applicants will be provided more information regarding the incentive program at the time of an interview.

     

    Journey Line Technician - pay grade 13 - $54.42/hour

     

    Senior Line Technician - pay grade 14 - $61.04/hour

     

    **Travel Required:** Up to 25% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska) _Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview._
