The Department of African American Studies (https://thecollege.syr.edu/african-american-studies/) in Syracuse University’s College of Arts & Sciences seeks a part-time instructor for the 2026 spring semester to teach an upper-level course, AAS 408: Masters of Black Music, which enables students to undertake in-depth explorations of leading Black music artists. One section (M001) scheduled for Tu/Th-3:30-4:50 pm.
Featured individuals and/or groups can represent genres ranging from Hip Hop/Rap to Jazz, Blues, Soul, Reggae, and/or music practices of artists from other parts of the diaspora or Africa. The course connects the aesthetics of Black sound to other forms of cultural production and addresses their social and political significance.
The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined based on their per-credit-rate-history within the hiring department. All course offerings are subject to funding availability and enrollment.
