Purpose of Classification
The purpose of this classification is to perform a variety of entry level field services tasks within the Utilities department. Employees in this classification are eligible for noncompetitive career ladder promotion to Utilities Field Technician II after meeting the established career ladder requirements.
Responsibilities and Reporting During an Emergency Situation:
Essential Employees - may be required to work during a declared emergency. Depending on the nature of the emergency, this may require working around the clock for several days on short notice.
UTILITIES FIELD TECHNICIAN I
The purpose of this classification is to perform a variety of entry level field services tasks within the Utilities department. Employees in this classification are eligible for noncompetitive career ladder promotion to Utilities Field Technician II after meeting the established career ladder requirements.
Hourly Rate Range:
Utilities Field Technician I - $16.08 - $24.13
UTILITIES FIELD TECHNICIAN II
The purpose of this classification is to perform a variety of field services tasks within the Utilities department. Employees in this classification are eligible for noncompetitive career ladder promotion to Utilities Field Technician III after meeting the established career ladder requirements.
Hourly Rate Range:
Utilities Field Technician II - $17.71 - $26.56
UTILITIES FIELD TECHNICIAN III
The purpose of this classification is to perform a variety of intermediate level field service tasks within the Utilities department.
Hourly Rate Range:
Utilities Field Technician III - $19.32 - $28.99 Hourly
Essential Functions
The following duties and functions, as outlined herein, are intended to be representative of the type of tasks performed within this classification. They are not listed in any order of importance. The omission of specific statements of the duties or functions does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Entry level position to assist other staff with and learn the following tasks/duties: Swales, flood control, point repairs, slip lining, dead end cleaning, canal cleaning, storm water conveyance system installation, etc. Sets well points. Loads and unloads equipment, supplies, tools and materials. Cleans culverts, gutters, ditches, swales, storm drains, canals, and many other similar jobs. Removes and replaces sod, sprinkler heads, etc. Repairs concrete and asphalt. Locates clean-outs and service lines. Installs clean-outs and basic sewer repairs. Services line flow tests and in clears blocked service lines. Repairs water leaks. Repairs and installs water service lines. Repairs, replaces, and inspects water mains, fire hydrants and tests and flushes fire hydrant water flow. Opens and closes water valves. Follows safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals. May operate a truck or other automotive equipment. Performs other general manual labor work as required. Uses a variety of power and hand tools to complete tasks in their area of assignment.
Minimum Qualifications
UTILITIES FIELD TECHNICIAN I
+ High school diploma or equivalent; and
+ Must have basic computer operations skills; and
+ Must possess [or able to obtain within fourteen (14) days of hire] and maintain a valid Florida driver's license.
Individuals selected for this position will be required to successfully complete a training program within one (1) year in the position. The training program will cover several facets of the job, including various concepts of safety, GIS, and Blueprint reading. Successful completion of the training program will be based on meeting the criteria outlined in the Career Path Advancement Requirements section (below). Failure to successfully complete the requirements of the program may result in termination from the training program and separation of employment.
UTILITIES FIELD TECHNICIAN II
+ High school diploma or valid equivalent; and
+ One (1) year of experience as an Utilities Field Technician I with the City of Boynton Beach; exposure to the operation of maintenance equipment used in assigned division. *The City may review applicant experience with other comparable employer to determine suitability for placement in UFT II position; and
+ Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Class B Commercial Driver's License; and
+ Must have completed fifteen (15) hours of safety training that includes confined space, fork lift, and other training relevant to area of assignment; and
+ Must pass the level II general written and practical tests with a minimum score of 70% on each component. Employees who fail to obtain a minimum score of 70% will have a two (2) month waiting period to re-take the division area test; and
+ Must meet 100% of the Utilities Field Technician I KSA's and 70% of the Utilities Field Technician II KSA's in one (1) division functional area.
UTILITIES FIELD TECHNICIAN III
+ High school diploma or valid equivalent; and
+ Must have a minimum of three (3) years of experience within a Utility division functional area; (prior outside experience will be considered)
+ Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
Must meet one (1) of the following (depending on your area of assignment):
+ Must possess and maintain a Stormwater C" Certification; or
+ Must possess and maintain a Wastewater C" Certification; or
+ Must possess and maintain a Level III Water Distribution; or
+ Must possess and maintain a Class C or higher Water Treatment Plant Operator License.

The City pays the entire premium for an eligible employee. The employee may elect to cover a spouse and/or dependent children by paying the applicable premium for the dependent(s).
Dental Insurance
Premiums for eligible employees are paid by the City. Premiums for any covered dependent are paid by the employee with a contribution by the City.

Life Insurance / Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance

City Retirement / Pension Plans
