Some of what you'll be doing:
As a Business Systems Analyst – General Accounting, you will play a critical role in optimizing the Port’s financial reporting and data integrity. You will enhance the efficiency and accuracy of the multiple functions within the Accounting and Financial Reporting (AFR) department including General Ledger (GL), Tax, and Financial Reporting by maximizing the utilization of the PeopleSoft ERP system, developing advanced financial reporting tools, and creating processes supporting data governance frameworks. You will also ensure compliance, support strategic decision-making, and prepare the organization as they implement technological advancements.
+ You will maintain and enhance PeopleSoft’s GL and associated account structure, ensuring accurate configurations and integrations with ancillary systems.
+ You will lead the data security effort by documenting who has access to sensitive data and report to department management on a regular basis about consistency of data governance compliance.
+ You will identify and implement opportunities to optimize workflows, reduce manual processes, and enhance automation within the ERP system, SharePoint and/or using other advanced analytical tools.
+ You will identify system and/or process changes needed to respond to changing regulatory compliance requirements. You will also assist with system upgrades and testing.
+ You will work with integrated ancillary financial systems to ensure accurate data flow between platforms, improving data reconciliation processes and minimizing errors.
+ You will work collaboratively with other system analysts on system functionality issues and enhancements and lead escalation of accounting system issues to Business Technology and/or ICT.
+ You will develop and maintain financial reports to ensure consistent and reliable financial data, creating standardized reporting templates for recurring financial statements.
+ You will analyze financial data to ensure accuracy, identifying discrepancies and errors within reports prior to distribution, and automating data validation and reconciliation processes.
+ You will assist with month-end and year-end close processes, supporting journal entry automation and validation, performing account reconciliations, and preparing various analysis and audit schedules to ensure compliance with GAAP and accounting policies.
+ You will provide system training to users, prepare training materials and conduct training sessions on the system and technology tools used to automate work processes.
Who you are:
+ **Experienced** – You have four (4) years of experience in systems analysis, financial reporting, and/or general accounting and two (2) years of experience in developing and maintaining financial reports, automated workflows, automation tools, and/or AI technologies.
+ **Desired** – We hope you have a bachelor’s degree in accounting, data analytics, information system or business administration.

+ **Proficient** – You have expertise in applying Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), or Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) accounting standards, with advanced knowledge of internal controls and financial reporting. You possess deep experience with ERP systems (Oracle PeopleSoft), focusing on General Ledger and data optimization. You are skilled in data governance, system integrations, and cross-platform data management to ensure accuracy and integrity. You also demonstrate strong proficiency in financial data analysis and reconciliation to efficiently identify and resolve discrepancies.
+ **Efficient Communicator** – You possess effective verbal, written, and active listening communication skills. You can write concise, organized, and clear communications to internal and external customers and can engage others in active, open, and productive dialogue for the purpose of resolving issues.
+ **Analytical Problem-Solver** – You excel in analysis, problem-solving, and troubleshooting and delivering accurate, timely solutions. You are also skilled in developing reports, optimizing workflows, and leveraging AI and automation to enhance efficiency and decision-making within governance standards.
+ **Technically Skilled** – You have experience with complex queries and advanced reporting and analytical tools such as SQL, Alteryx, BI Publisher, or Tableau to support data-driven decision making and enhance financial reporting capabilities, and advanced SharePoint skills (Workflows and Power Automate)
What else you need to know:
+ **Work Schedule** – Your normal work schedule will be Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (40 hours per week). Slightly more flexible start and end times are available in this role. You may be required to work during emergencies.
+ **Work Environment** - This work will take place in a hybrid/in-office setting at Management’s discretion.
+ **Washington State Residency Requirement** – Employees must establish a residence in Washington state within 30 days of their first day of employment and must maintain a residence in Washington State during their employment with the Port of Seattle. If a position is eligible to telework, work performed while teleworking must be performed in Washington State.
