    Description of Job

    About The Work Unit:

    The Prevention Services Division works with public and private partners across Colorado to improve the health of all Coloradans. Division professionals develop, review, implement and evaluate public health interventions proven to promote healthy living, prevent chronic disease, protect against injury and ensure access to health care and opportunities for a healthy lifestyle. The Division is committed to the professional development, collaborative effort and sustained wellness of its workforce.

     

    The Office of Suicide Prevention serves as the lead entity for suicide prevention, intervention supports, and postvention efforts in Colorado, collaborating with communities statewide to reduce suicide through health policy, legislation, public awareness and education, training, assessments, and intervention programs

    What You Will Be Doing:

    This position operates independently and is accountable for coordinating, monitoring and outreach regarding suicide prevention initiatives related to lethal means safety, working-age men, service members, veterans, and their families. Serves as the Office of Suicide Prevention’s subject matter expert on suicide prevention initiatives for these communities, the position applies professional standards and guidelines on best practices to provide technical guidance to grantees and stakeholders working on suicide prevention initiatives. This position provides staff support and leadership to the Colorado Service Members, Veterans and Their Families Workgroup and theGovernor’s Challenge to Prevent Suicide Among Service Members, and Veterans and Their Families. Additionally, this position coordinates the Colorado Gun Shop Project and other lethal means safety efforts for suicide prevention, and coordinates efforts for Man Therapy and Operation Veteran Strong.

     

    Further, this position collaborates with other state injury and violence prevention programs in PSD and CDPHE, including the Office of Gun Violence Prevention. Knowledge of firearm safety, strategic program coordination and cross-sector coordination are vital for success in this position to anticipate and analyze the impact of decisions. Uses professional judgment, data analysis, and stakeholder engagement skills to develop and evaluate program strategies and is responsible for building and sustaining high-level partnerships to inform policy, align systems, and advance coordination on suicide prevention interventions at the community and state level.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Experience Only:

    Six (6) years of relevant experience in prevention and/or education program planning or evaluation, including providing technical assistance, facilitation, or guidance to partners or grantees.

    OR

    Education and Experience:

    A combination of related education in health, psychology, sociology, social work, public policy, public administration, public health, or a closely related field AND/OR relevant experience in education program planning or evaluation, including providing technical assistance, facilitation, or guidance to partners or grantees equal to six (6) years

    Preferred Qualifications:

    In addition to the minimum requirements, the successful candidate in this position will have the following highly desirable experience and competencies:

    + Experience with suicide prevention, intervention, and/or postvention programs

    + Experience with firearms, gun shops and/or ranges either as a firearm owner or professionally

    + Experience understanding and synthesizing the needs of firearm communities and communicating to broad partners around lethal means safety and firearms

    + Experience managing conflicts and diverse opinions of partners around lethal means safety and firearms.

    + Experience with programs, strategies, activities and practices serving the service members, veterans and their families (SMVF) community, and/or personal experience as a service member, veteran or military family.

    + Experience with project management which included managing/writing competitive grants, managing budgets and contracts.

    + Experience synthesizing complex research, data, or evaluation measures into understandable and usable resources.
