What Your Job Will Be Like:
We are seeking a highly motivated leader to manage the Systems Research and Analysis II Department (8714) as part of the collaborative, multi-disciplinary Systems Analysis team within group 8710 Systems Analysis & Reliability. This unique leadership opportunity (job title: Manager, R&D Science & Engineering) involves overseeing a team that supports all Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) mission areas, with a heavy focus on Deterrence, Science and Energy, Nuclear Deterrence, and Global Security. This department also operates across various domains, including chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) defense, Critical Infrastructure Protection, Food and Agriculture Resilience, Health Security, and Cybersecurity.
This department specializes in applying risk-based methodologies, technical feasibility analyses, and engineering trade-off studies to provide objective insights that empower leaders to make informed, risk-based decisions. In this role, you will have a broad range of technical, programmatic, and personnel management responsibilities, and you will manage two indirectly funded system analysis portfolios that support lab leadership and the California site. You will also collaborate closely with fellow managers in group 8710, with leadership across SNL at all levels, and with customers and stakeholders both within SNL and externally with USG customers.
This position is both challenging and rewarding, offering the opportunity to make a significant impact on national security and SNL.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
+ Oversee and manage work rooted in the fundamentals of science and engineering, ensuring a deep understanding of engineering and scientific principles.
+ Deliver results in a dynamic and ambiguous environment.
+ Ensure customer satisfaction by coordinating deliverables, program and project plans, budgets, schedules, and staffing requirements.
+ Prepare and deliver briefings and reports to SNL and government executives.
+ Collaborate across the laboratory and with external organizations, including other federally funded research and development centers (FFRDCs) and government agencies.
+ Lead initiatives to enhance systems analysis capabilities and impacts.
+ Manage employee recruitment, selection, training, performance assessment, and disciplinary actions within the department.
+ Provide strategic vision and leadership and ensure execution of current activities across a wide range of program and project areas.
+ Cultivate and manage a safe, secure, creative, and productive work environment for staff.
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite and be willing/able to travel every 1-2 months.
Salary Range:
$187,100 - $317,900
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require:
+ A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and eight (8) years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development.
+ Active DOE Q-level security clearance or equivalent DOD Top Secret level security clearance; and ability to obtain and maintain SCI-level security clearance, which may require a polygraph test.
Qualifications We Desire:
The ideal R&D S&E Manager candidate for Sandia National Laboratories will in addition possess the following:
+ Two or more years of demonstrated leadership experience.
+ A graduate degree in science or engineering (MS or Ph.D.).
+ Outstanding interpersonal skills in developing trusting relationships with peers, staff, management, customers, and stakeholders.
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills in the development and delivery of presentations, proposals, reports and documentation.

+ Proven ability to lead and collaborate within multi-disciplinary teams across various domains.
+ Proven experience in leading small to medium-sized teams and managing programs, ensuring project assurance, and delivering impactful results while optimizing resources and budget efficiency.
+ Passionate about enhancing product impacts and inspiring purposeful innovation within teams, with a proven track record of implementing improvements.
+ Experience in systems analysis, including proficiency in risk-based methodologies, technical feasibility analyses, and/or engineering trade-off studies.
+ Comprehensive understanding of SNL's mission areas and operations with a particular focus within Division 8000.
About Our Team:
Department 8714, Systems Research and Analysis II, within the Systems Analysis & Reliability Group (8710), is dedicated to addressing critical national security challenges through a multi-disciplinary approach. Group 8710 is a multi-department team in the Computation & Analysis for National Security Center (8700) and supports a wide range of customers across multiple mission areas, including deterrence, science and energy, nuclear deterrence, and global security, as well as providing internal support to Sandia. By utilizing a wide range of advanced tools and methodologies, Group 8710 combines technical expertise, cross-domain knowledge, and multiple analytic disciplines to produce insights that enable leaders to make informed, risk-aware decisions.
Posting Duration:

Security Clearance:
Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Applicants for employment need to also be able to obtain and maintain SCI access, which requires US citizenship. SCI access may also require a polygraph examination. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain these levels of access may be impacted.
