    Job Description

    The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) is the nation’s oldest and largest public housing authority with more than 150,000 apartments and over 300,000 residents. NYCHA’s mission is to provide quality housing for New Yorkers that is sustainable, inclusive, and safe, while fostering opportunities for economic mobility. NYCHA also administers a citywide Section 8 leased housing program that serves over 200,000 tenants.

     

    Reporting to the Senior Director of the Planning & Project Management Office (“PPMO”), the Assistant to the Senior Director will support the PPMO by providing coordination, communication, and engagement assistance to ensure projects, meetings, and stakeholder activities run smoothly. This role helps connect departments, coordinate staff and resident surveys, track follow-ups, and support internal engagement across Operations. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, responsive, and able to work collaboratively with internal partners and community stakeholders. The Assistant to the Senior Director’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

     

    1. Provide coordination and communication support to the Senior Director and PPMO team to ensure timely follow-up on projects, meetings, and deliverables.

    2. Attend and document internal meetings and community-related sessions, summarizing key discussion points, action items, and next steps.

    3. Assist in planning and facilitating meeting, focus groups, working groups, community surveys, and trainings involving Operations staff and other NYCHA stakeholders.

    4. Draft internal and external communications, including meeting summaries, project updates, announcements, and outreach materials.

    5. Gather information and documentation from staff and programs to support presentations, reports, and audits.

    6. Track and follow-up on action items and assist with progress monitoring for department initiatives.

    7. Serve as liaison between the PPMO and other NYCHA departments to ensure clear communication and alignment on operational priorities.

    8. Support community-facing activities and engagement efforts related to operational programs or policy rollouts.

    9. Perform related duties as assigned to support the mission of the PPMO and NYCHA.

    Qualifications

    1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or

    2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or

    3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
