Job Description

**Your Role:** We are looking for a reporter to join our agenda-setting US news team in New York.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced journalist to be a part of the launch of our USwebsite. You will be responsible for writing US news and features for The Times and TheSunday Times.

The successful candidate will have a passion for American politics and current affairs and atrack record of breaking stories across a broad range of areas.

Day to day you will:

+ Consistently deliver accurate, engaging copy to strict deadlines

+ Cover major news stories across the US

+ Pitch agenda-setting exclusive news and features ideas to the US editor

+ Work with the US editor and the US news team on big projects, campaigns and interviews

+ Build and maintain excellent contacts

+ Be a self-starter and pitch strong ideas for digital content

+ Use social networking and other digital platforms for content generation and to promote Times and Sunday Times content

+ Work collaboratively with other sections across the papers, including design, graphics and pictures to ensure the best presentation of stories on our digital platforms

What we’re looking for from you:

+ Experienced reporter with the ability to land agenda-setting exclusives

+ Demonstrable knowledge of and interest in US news and politics

+ Keen attention to detail and meticulous fact-checking

+ Good understanding of audience data and SEO techniques to maximise search results

+ Able to use social media platforms to engage current and new audiences for The Times and The Sunday Times

+ Able to work autonomously and to strict deadlines

+ Excellent presentation skills and able to communicate succinctly and effectively

+ Unflappable and reliable under pressure

+ A strong understanding of editorial compliance and regulatory issues
