Job Duties
Management Duties: Oversee Mission Control, Real Time Locator System and Gift Shop. Ensure at all times that confidentiality is maintained on all documentation related to the hospital, department, physician's orders, and patient's medical record. Prepare the annual operating budget for the departments. Participate in the budgeting and cost control process to keep operations within budget. Maintain supplies for patient safety and performance procedures. Develops staffing plans for departments. Meets target to retain personnel with qualifications and competence to complete required tasks. Applies corrective action in a timely manner in accordance with THR policies and procedures. Oversee the effectiveness of the department recruitment and retention program, taking action as necessary to provide an adequate level of qualified staff. Promote professional growth, development and accountability in staff, students and colleagues. Work with director and supervisor to track and evaluate staff performance and individual development, holding staff accountable for achieving service expectations. Coach and mentor subordinate staff in order to improve their performance and expand responsibilities. Develop and support shared decision-making through the Unit Based Council model in order to develop inter/intradepartmental teamwork and team goal accomplishments. Identify leadership talent and actively develop staff.
Leadership: Organize and present departmental education programs for development and growth of all staff. Assist supervisor/Audit Nurse as required for proper documentation and payment of services. Be 'on call' for the Mission Control and Gift Shops. Must remain available to the departments during inclement weather and disaster situations to ensure fast, effective delivery of patient care.
Promote understanding and effective use of organization management theories and research. Establish collegial relationships with physicians, unit personnel and administration. Integrate team-building strategies and principles of group process in iteration with staff. Promote the professional image in demeanor, appearance, communicate with staff and customer groups as appropriate regarding hospital/departmental goals, results and future direction. Advocate for appropriate fiscal and Human Resources to accomplish work/goals for the Department and the Organization. Engage in self-performance appraisal on regular basis, identifying areas of strength as well as areas for professional/practice development. Support and promote community health activities among staff and colleagues.
Communication: Be in constant communication with staff, Director, and other care team members and physicians. Have good verbal and written communication skills, and good listening skills. Must develop and maintain strong relationships with all nursing units. Able to delegate duties to provide a high quality of care. Utilize, encourage, support, and uphold service standards with self and staff. Relay hospital and department information both timely and accurately. Introduce and reinforce value of service to physicians and public via one-on-one or group presentations as well as mass advertising. Coordinate with hospital marketing department and periodically travel to physician offices and community civic meetings. Collaborate with system/hospital departments (HR, CBO, Finance, Admissions, Case Workers, etc.) as appropriate.
Patient Focus and Customer Satisfaction: Measure to ensure accurate and appropriate provision of services for appropriateness and patient satisfaction. Be customer service oriented for positive patient outcomes. Collaborate with all customer groups (patients, department/hospital staff, physicians and other customer groups), to meet and exceed needs/expectations. Create and maintain a collaborative work environment (patients, physicians, and key stakeholders). Actively engage in customer groups on a regular basis to promote effective customer relationships and communication with prompt resolution of issues and concerns. Determine gaps between actual results and expectations. Evaluates customer satisfaction as a regular practice.
Operations: Manages Mission Control, Retail gift shops, Real time locator system operations to maximize customer satisfaction and sales. Supervises staff to ensure quality. Ensures compliance with regulatory, licensure, compliance and accreditation requirements. Works with director to develop and implement performance goals and objectives. Serves as the first point of contact for customer complaints. Responsible to reconcile and investigate all complaints relating to practice operations. Direct day to day activities for stores. Responsible for maintaining store appeal.
Financial: Supervise department sales, markdown, and stocking plans. Conduct weekly reviews of business and performance analysis. Understand the importance of Contribution Margin and its impact on service line and hospital. Exhibits high standards and accountability. Takes pride in accuracy. Ensure that overtime and departmental resources are used properly. Manages daily productivity, collections and accuracy of data collection.
Stewardship of the department resources by fostering a continuous improvement mindset. Drive high quality patient care in a cost efficient manner. In collaboration with the department management and staff, determine the appropriate number and level of staff, balancing competency, patient needs, patient outcomes, patient safety outcomes and productivity guidelines. Monthly review of the Departmental Responsibility Reports (DRRs) to determine adherence to operational performance targets.
Processes all invoices for EVS inventory and services. Keeps A/P accounts up to date.
Quality and Marketing: Maintain highest level of service while managing cost. Communicate with merchants and other stores to select products. Communicate with team to liquidate products. Identify and react to trends to drive sales and achieve margin.
Use benchmark data from internal and external sources to identify opportunities for improvement of care and patient safety. Identify key performance indicators that need to be monitored and evaluated. Develop, monitor and evaluate systems that improve organizational performance. Include department staff shared KPI goal setting, strategy development and outcomes analysis.
Education
Associate's Degree Healthcare, Business, Retail or Merchandising field, or, Bachelor's Degree Healthcare, Business, Retail or Merchandising field preferred
Experience
3 years healthcare-related field required
Licenses and Certifications
BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support preferred upon hire
Skills
Excellent communication skills. Demonstration of success in strategizing and sales. Able to independently organize and prioritize broad workload to meet deadlines. Ability to demonstrate advance business, computer, and financial skills under the supervision and direction of a director. Manages front store operations to maximize workflows and customer satisfaction. Critical thinking and strong medical terminology.
